Best Jazz CD 2001 Amazon.co.uk, March 8, 2002
What a surprise!Rated best Jazz CD 2001 in England's Amazon.co.uk and hardly rated here at all!Guess I'll have to persuade you guys to try something new!I think that this CD is important in that it manages to remain contemporary without resorting to some of the techno-jazz gimmics found in many of the current Scandinavian "jazz" CD offerings.It's more of a classic approach with acoustic instruments-piano,bass(Arild Andersen),guitar and ex Soft Machine drummer John Marshall.The real source of its freshness comes from the type of tunes written by Powell together with his cliche free piano playing.The overall sound is European with a strong melodic factor and some great blowing!
