4.0 out of 5 stars FORT WORTH, TEXAS - THE WAY THEY WERE, April 20, 2004
This review is from: North Of The River: A Brief History of North Fort Worth (Chisholm Trail) (Paperback)
A native of the North side of Fort Worth, Texas, J'Nell Pate knows that area, and she relates its colorful history well.

For a period after the Civil War life in this area centered on cattle drives. Eventually, with the advent of stockyards and meat-packing, North Fort Worth led in meat production. Entertainment was eclectic, from an open air "bier garten" to baseball games. Small businesses grew; neighborhoods formed as families flourished.

Pate wisely recounts Fort Worth's past through the eyes of many who lived it. The volume also holds 40 black-and-white photos.
