5.0 out of 5 stars The PERFECT gate for ferrets!
I ordered this since I saw the other review from a ferret owner and they were exactly right - thank you!

Most gates have a bit of a gap on either side that's fine for dogs or babies but big enough for a ferret to either sneak through or to get a nose stuck. My last gate (this one by First Years - [...]) I had to buy wood and glue it to the sides to fill...

2.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to use and doesn't work with baseboards
After reading the positive reviews here, I decided to buy this gate. What a mistake! First, adjusting the width of the gate was a pain. The sliding mechanism is just not smooth. Second, opening the gate is difficult. I'm an average strength woman and I had to use two hands to unhook the metal latch. Third, I have fairly shallow baseboards and this gate did not work with...

5.0 out of 5 stars The PERFECT gate for ferrets!, December 13, 2008
This review is from: North States Supergate Clear Choice Gate, XT (Baby Product)
I ordered this since I saw the other review from a ferret owner and they were exactly right - thank you!

Most gates have a bit of a gap on either side that's fine for dogs or babies but big enough for a ferret to either sneak through or to get a nose stuck. My last gate (this one by First Years - [...]) I had to buy wood and glue it to the sides to fill these gaps. This one sits really close to the wall on both sides so perfect right out of the box.

It also doesn't have the wimpy clips that some of the clear plastic gates have. Mine fell over once when it wasn't in use and one clip broken. Couple months later one of my cats pulled it over while jumping it (since it was loose with only one clip set) and the other clip broke. So less than a year later, I threw away a $40 gate!

This one is like the old-style wood gates with a notched bar, a metal bracket and a wooden arm that comes down to lock the gate in base. And once it's locked down it's VERY secure. Instead of plastic lattice of the old-style gates it's clear plastic - with only one vertical bar. As long as you put that side towards the ferrets there's no climbing the gate. At 32" it's also higher than some gates which prevent any vertical jumping over (not that ferrets can jump very well ;))

Definitely recommend and very happy I picked this one. Solid, well made and surprisingly inexpensive, too! Also would like to add that I ordered this with regular shipping on Dec 8th and it showed that it wouldn't be here till the 15th. It arrived on the 12th!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps the critters at bay!, November 22, 2008
This review is from: North States Supergate Clear Choice Gate, XT (Baby Product)
I bought this to keep my two ferrets bottled up in my living room. Since they can climb, jump, or find their way around a ton of obstacles this gate has been a lifesaver. I got two and they work perfectly as the ferrets have nothing to climb up due to the clear plastic panels.

When the gates arrived one was broken but Amazon took care of my problem in a day! I got a new one and the cost of me sending back the broken item was refunded...in a day! Love the service I get from Amazon, and the gates are great too, I highly recommend for anyone with ferrets, or any other creature that likes to go places it shouldn't.

Finally, a gate that the sneaky guy can't get thru. Once you figure out the locking system (it's a bit different)this is wonderful for keeping the small ferret out of where you don't want him to be. No holes to go thru the sides and no net to climb up and over. I will buy another one when the plastic baby gate from One step wears out that I bought 5 years ago that is now [........]. I am sure this would be great for baby too.

This gate is so easy to use, install, and uninstall. It's perfect for ferrets. Mine still haven't figured how to get over or under! Perfect for any pet that would climb, rather than jump, over.

I just got this gate today for my 2 mini lop bunnies. Very adorable, very rambunctios, and very smart! So I needed something bunny-proof, that would let me keep my bunny-room door open but keep them in the safe bunny-proofed area.

I love the height of this gate (2'8"), the fact that it's clear (seems like less of an obstruction, visually), the fact that its wall is solid and doesn't provide a paw-hold for my bunnies to climb on.

And once you figure out how to lock it, it is very solid. I don't have baseboards so I can't comment on that. I fit this in between my door posts and it is solid.

My one complaint is that the directions should be more specific and have a photo.
Here's the trick to open and lock this thing:

The "gate lock" is the upside-down "U" shaped thingie next to the written numbers. You have to take this *Completely off* the under bar with the numbers on it [this is the part they leave out]. THEN you slide the bar to the right number (ex. 36 for a 36 inch opening), at which point your two bars look like an upside down "V", and THEN you slide the bar down to snap the "U" lock device down onto the number bar.

It will usually take a little elbow grease to align both bars, but it's not a big deal. I'm an average size lady and I have no problem with it.

Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for high jumpers, January 8, 2009

I needed a product to contain my acrobatic rat terrier to a 'safe' zone while I am out of the house; this is SO great! First off, its solid. Its not wobbly like alot of other gates I have seen. It's wood framing and locking arms are very sturdy.

The locking mechanism is also much sturdier than alot of other gates I have looked at. My little dog jumps at this thing with all of her might, and the gate stays steady.

The height is a huge plus as well. Those few extra inches make all the difference if you have a high jumper!

I have bought many, many baby gates for the purpose of containing my ferrets....eventually they always figure out how to get over it! It has been weeks and they can't get over it....truly a excellent choice for a ferret gate!

I purchased this gate because we adopted a new dog and as he's a mix of Rottweiler and Doberman, he's very tall. This gate has allowed him to see our 4 cats, but has kept them safe. This is a very good quality product and I would recommend it to everyone.

This items is great, it keeps my ferret Momo out of my laundry room.. which has some holes in the drywall. Don't want him getting into that. I don't think he likes it though.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like this, March 28, 2011

I like this gate.

I needed a gate for the kitchen doorway that was tension mounted due to the door jambs being metal. I would have preferred a swing gate, but the metal jambs just do not hold screws well. I also wanted one that my 11 month old could not stick his fingers through, but could still see the dog onthe other side. This seemed to fit the bill and it did.

The first thing I noticed about it was the height. I didn't really pay attention to the height in the listing. It is 32 inches high which is too high to climb over constantly to go in and out of the kitchen. I was going to send it back and get the shorter gate, but at 23 inches it defeats the purpose of keeping my 30 inch tall son from touching the dog.

The tension on this this is awesome. I had no issue with it coming loose. My son bangs on it HARD and it holds the tight fit.

The plastic is not crystal clear, it is translucent, but you can still make out whats on the other side pretty well.

I liked it so much that I decided to keep it and convert it to a swinging gate because of the climbing over issue.

My son is not too much of a climber, so I can't attest to that. If you have the gate facing the right way, it doesn't look like there is anything for a climber to get a foot on.

Overall, the gate seems sturdy, keeps little fingers out, and is see-through.
