Finally a gate that actually works! I am a mother of two boys a nine month old and a 2 1/2 year old and I highly recommend this gate to any mother who needs a minute in peace (we all know quiet is impossible)! It looks good and works like a gate should !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since the reviews on this gate had a wide range, I bought it with some caution. I am pleased to report that the gate is in fact easy to install, easy to open and close, doesn't get stuck, and is very easy to latch closed. Unless you have an older child, you don't even need to use the locking pin (which is a good thing because the locking pin is strictly for adults and is not easy to manipulate). It is best to install this kind of gate in an opening trimmed out at least 6" in depth. This is because the right side of the gate where it attaches to the wall of the opening will be offset about 6" from the left side of the gate where it attaches to the wall of the opening.

I had my husband put this up- we needed to add our own 1 x 4 wood to screw in the gate to the wall- their screws are lame so we used our own wood screws too-
only to find this gate is way too hard to open/close. We took it down and returned it. This was for a kitchen entrance where there is high traffic, and each time we go through this gate, we had to be very patient, for it is wobbly and you need to latch it shut - have it aligned just right and it is soooo frustrating! The sliding door sticks and gets stuck every time so you need to push and pull to get it to slide open or shut.
Once you can get it to slide open, it swings out which is great, but don't waste your time and money!

We have had one of these gates for about twelve years now and it has withstood numerous large dogs, rug rats, toddlers, and works just as well as when it was new. It does take a little hand/eye coordination to get it to close/latch properly but with a little practice it works just fine. We liked the original so much we have just purchased another. The newer model has a little improvement over our original but is essentially the same. Extra locks and the latching bar are available from the manufacturer, North States Industries. It is made in the U.S.A. Surprise!

At first the gate was a bit hard to slide back and forth but it slides with easy now, just needed to be worn in. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. This gate was $38 when we bought it and the plastic is very crackable so be easy with it. I have a 13 yeae old, a 5 year old and an 8 month old we advised both the older kids to not hang or sit on the gate.

When I first opened the package, I was concerned that the gate was going to be too large to work well in the doorway on which I was installing this gate. The gate did in fact turn out to be much more than I needed (it's max span is 62", I have it in a 48" doorway). Installing the hardware on the door frame required several drill holes on BOTH sides of the door frame (7 each side), which is to be expected when you have to support a swinging gate across a large span. Upon setting the gate after hardware installation, I found that although the gate was fully adjustable to width, I still had WAY too much of the gate unused which just added unnecessary weight. Fortunately, if you are willing to take the risk that I did, one of the 4 panels can be carefully removed from the gate, and the remaining 3 panels reassembled (I do NOT think this gate can be used with only 2 panels because the end panels are slightly different than the 2 middle ones). By paying close attention to how the sliding mechanism operated before taking the panels apart (it's nothing more than a channel at the top and bottom of each panel which contains a plastic slider attached with a screw and very easily removed), I was able to remove one of the middle panels then reassemble the other 3. The gate now works BEAUTIFULLY without the extra weight from the unneeded panel. It would have been nice to just pop the gate on the doorway and not have to bother with modifying it, but it was worth every second once it was reassembled and back on it's hinges. Total install time, with set up, gathering necessary tools, modification, installation and clean up approx. 90min.

I purchased this gate to keep my new puppy in the kitchen. I have a large opening between my kitchen and living room and this gate fit wonderfully. It was very easy to install and there was no assembling required. I would recommend this item to anyone with pets or small children. I also have a two year old and it works on him also. The ease of opening and closing is wonderful. This item was priced very reasonable.

Not a bad gate and ceratinly one of very, very few that accomodate large openings. It's plastic, so it is a bit flimsy though. Sliding open and closed is not difficult and it locks easily enough. I bought this gate for a dog gate, and my beagle figured out he could use the little openings in the panels to get a foot hold and climb over. Took him about five minutes to figure that out. Then I installed some plexiglass on the inside of the gate so he couldnt get traction, but again, he was able to jump up high enough to get his elbows on it and shift his weight right over the top. This gate needs to be aboout a foot taller for sure. If you have a dog that doesnt jump or climb, install this gate he'll learn real quick...

I purchased 2 of these for 2 separate openings. They arrived promptly and packaged very well to avoid any shipping damage. One package contained all parts, however the other was missing one of the hanging brackets (but gave me 2 of another part) needed to attach to the wall. I could have gone through the trouble of shipping back to Amazon.com and ordering another, but instead decided to contact the manufacturer directly. Within 2 days, I received the correct piece and now have both gate units in full use. My grandson is 13 months and he has attempted to push it to dislodge it, but it held its ground! The gate is very easy to set up, only needing a drill and phillips screwdriver. I think this was a very smart investment and you can't beat the price. It folds up compactly and swivels so you can keep it attached on one side and have it out of the way against a wall...but you can easily detach the entire unit and just keep the hinge and lock pieces on the wall. The color is not intrusive whatsoever. Although this product is made of plastic, it is made very well. Our entryways are from removing 2 French doors each entry, so I was limited as to what gates would fit such a large space. These fit the bill, and we still have a good 3-4 inches left for full extension. I am contemplating on ordering another gate for another area around my kitchen...but will wait and see if I really need another one to replace the "piece meal" gate I am using in that area. I highly recommend these gates. Great price, great quality, and the customer service with the manufacturer stands behind their products...and of course, Amazon.com is the best way to shop too!

Well, I would have to agree with some reviews on here, the gate does get stuck every once in awhile when pulling it in an out, but what did you expect ... unless it's solid metal and rigid, it's expected to do that. Also, the latch in a pain at first, until you figure out how to work, it, then you'll love it because my 7 year old can't even undo it. That said, I absolutely love the gate. I have mine in a high traffic area but I've gone through other gates and they either don't stick to the wall or, I had another one that used screws and my 2 year old stood on it and they just ripped out of the wall. With this gate, my now three year old ... even though she gets in trouble when she stands on it ... it supports her weight. It's kid proof and your child will not get past it. I have one of those cheap gates that just presses against the wall and my kids just plow it over, so I am buying another one of these. Installing can be a pain, but once it's installed, it's great! I did use 2" drywall screws to anchor it to the studs in the wall but yea, awesome!
