This helmet is just....AWESOME! Its looks just like it was used in the Vietnam War! it even has Vietnamese writing in it! Great for outdoor jobs and it blends into the tropical forest very well. I would recommend it to anybody interested in the Vietnam War and Vietnam itself! Just try not to were it in public areas, people will think you are trying to start a Revolution. :)

Capitalism is alive and well in the land of "Bah" Ho Chi Min.
This pith helmet is the only way to go if you are launching an attack on Yankee running dogs or the French or just puttering in the garden! It is light weight, well made and does an admirable job of keeping the sun out of your eyes. It works well for jungle duty when accessorized with insect netting. Despite these fine qualities it may cause a stir if you wear this fashion statement into your local PHO restaurant unless you are North of the 38th parallel.I recomend this for anyone who wants to start a revolution.

...I was looking at this article and, I suppose, some little things should be added about:

    - We're talking about pith, I suppose, the plant? By the pic it seems some molded or injected green plastic material, with (hard, thin?)green cotton canvas glued on... But my memories are diffuse by now and I will need to have a "real" pith one to compare. That said, and on this matter, take it with a grain...Positively sure? No.

    - I think it would be better not to "guide" the general opinion with a prejudice, calling it "VC", Viet Cong or, not said here it's true, but following the same thought - why not? - "Charlie Pit". Why not just to describe it as the "Regular North Vietnam Army" or NVA Green Pith Helmet?Or, even by their political name, known internationally, and at the time, the "Viet Minh" Hat.

-Nobody in Vietnam, now, use the Golden Star on red background. Those times are gone by now!! Although, this model (with the well-known conical rice straw hat with silk/cotton chin strap...) is still widely worn today, by all kind of people,on streets, open air markets, even on mopeds as a regular helmet, but always without the golden star.

-As seen, that star is attached, on helmet's center by a screw/washer trought a smaller and hidden ventilation hole, right on the center of your forehead, when properly worn. Please, discard the star, the bolt and use the extra ventilation hole!!The bolt it's not pleasant on head, be sure of it, and when hat off, you will have a red tiny dot right in the center of your forehead, by bolt contact!!

-A nice chin strap will be made of a quality water buffalo leather strip, tickness about 2/3 mm. Some of these hats have just a "kind of" imitation vinyl leather with a plastic grid beneath, industrial made "skaï".
