Unfortunately, this series is *not* complete. It's been butchered for a quick buck. Only season one has the original music, as is well documented. It's such a shame to ruin what is one of TV's finest and most original shows.

Do yourself a favor and skip buying this set. I was able to obtain/bootleg all of the episodes on DVD, which I felt I had no choice in doing (I'd rather buy a factory set), recorded from Canadian TV (which, by the way, even has more footage in some of the episodes than the syndicated U.S. broadcasts). This way it's intact, the way it was intended, with the original soundtrack---not the pusillanimous generic elevator music that the studio hastily replaced it with in the DVDs. It's just not the same show without the original soundtrack.

A faux-suede satchel or fake parka case doesn't come close to making up for compromising the artistic integrity of Northern Exposure. Sorry Universal, but you aren't getting one red cent from me until you get this right.

I would love to buy this. It would be my most prized DVD set. But I cannot until they present us the episodes in their complete and original forms. What a sad waste. They could have sold 100X this many and had steady post release sales had they not gutted this fantastic show. Sad.

Great show but it needs the original music. It's too integral a part of the presentation. Kind of like watching a Fred Astaire movie with someone else doing the dancing.

It is absolutely infuriating that this is not released as aired, original music intact. There are MANY fans that have waited years for this complete release, and now to find that they've cheaped out. I don't care about the cost...have a cheap version for those that can't afford it, and the true version for those who are willing to pay the difference. Just nuts. Any fan, not just purists, will tell you that the music in the show was instrumental to every episode. Whatever possessed these people to think this would fly? .....maybe they should drill holes in their heads to let the demons out....

I'm writing this review because I just want to echo the other reviewers displeasure by the choice of the publishers to butcher the series' soundtrack. Perhaps with enough negative publicity, the studios may take notice and do a proper release.

Purchasing the full series would be a no-brainer if it were fully intact, but many fans I've spoken to are choosing to not buy, or in some cases, purchasing bootlegged DVDs of the show as aired because they are truer to the show than the official DVDs.

If you spend time on amazon you know they love to do collections like this. They take all of the DVD seasons currently available and they strap them together to give you every episode ever at a pleasantly discounted price.

    Pros
    - all content from the previously released seasons are here
    - picture quality is excellent
    - despite their only being 5 boxes you will get all six seasons ( seasons one and two are in one DVD set)
    - the biggest and most obvious pro is that you get to watch all 110 episodes
    - no known issues related to double sided discs
    - all extras from original season are included such as deleted/extended scenes. There are even some extras highlighting lot lines that were dropped from the show. Also expect the occasional gag reel.

    Cons
    - ****the biggest and most noticeable con is that with this set you will NOT get the original music from the series. The music has been switched out for royalty free music. This is not the end if the works but you will real a lot of negative reviews due to this. It kinda feels like the soul has been sucked out if the show. If you watch a lot if old shows you will be used to this. See the Wonder years on Netflix for similar disappointment.
    - the fluffy parkas are included. This was only part of the original separate season 1 and season 2 separated sets.
    - the messenger bag packaging is not included
    - small con episodes are on double sided discs. I have not head of any issues with this particular set but double sides discs in the DVD community can sometimes lead to issues from cheap production.

This is a fantastic collection and is far cheaper than buying the individual seasons. If you know you love this show then you will love this bundle.

I recently received this series set and thought a review of the product, and not the series, was called for. I couldn't find these answers anywhere else, so here you go:

The series comes in a cheap faux-suede bag with a cardboard insert to keep the DVDs from sliding around. The DVDs fit well and do not rattle or slide. You can remove the insert and use the bag by itself if you'd like.

The DVDs are the same DVDs as you would receive if you ordered the individual seasons seperately from Amazon. There are two packaging differences, though. First, the DVDs are not wrapped in the novelty gift parkas that the individual seasons have. Second, the DVDs come in the "slim" style of cases instead of the standard DVD cases.

The special features provide no commentary. There are a few bloopers and a few outtakes, but that's about it.

I'm giving this four stars because I'm pleased with the product, which is a no frills collection of six seasons. The set loses a star because the original music is gone, and season six was and still is sub-par.

can anyone tell me what's inside the bag?
It has the original packaging of the individual seasons without the outer boxes. There is a piece of cardboard inside the bag that provides support for the slim cases. All the discs are single-sided, by the way.
