The good news is that this is a very sturdy low-cost X-Y cross-slide vice for your drill press. The bad news is that it arrives "dirty" and in serious need of adjustment.

This tool is about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a "professional" equivalent. And once you clean it up and properly adjust it, it is reasonably smooth and quite sturdy.

Mine arrived in good shipping condition, but covered in oil and with quite a lot of the metal filings visible from it's machining. It was set up incredibly sloppy - something like a quarter to 1/8-inch play in all directions! Fortunately, disassembly is easy and a liberal blast of WD-40 on all the parts followed by a wipe-down with a rag or paper towel takes care of the filings and mess. Then oil the slides and turn-screws and reassemble the machine. Setting the adjustments is easy - just set for the best combination of minimum play and reasonable ease of operation. That's not tough - It made me wonder if a chimp had originally adjusted mine.

If you allow an hour or so and for the clean up and adjustment you wind up with a pretty good vice for the money.

Unit received well packaged and undamaged. Comprised primarily of cast iron components, some assembly was required, however, all was fairly intuitive. Length of travel in both axes is fine; vice operation is acceptable as well. Unit installed easily on the table of an industrial quality, floor mounted, drill press in my garage workshop. Two issues appeared during first time use:
1 - poor machining on interfacing surfaces disallowed smooth movement in both axes,
2 - lost motion in X -axis was excessive (approximately 3/16 inch).
Problem #1 is fixable in my workshop. Resolving problem #2 will be more complicated as one of the as-cast hole locations is severely out of alignment with two others resulting in excessive "slop" in the X-axis.

For those working in their garage workshop, this tool would probably be considered acceptable and pricing commensurate with product quality. If, however, smooth and accurate operation is important, this is not the right tool.
For the price of this item, overall quality fell far below expectations.
In my humble opinion, it should be unnecessary to completely disassemble and rework an item in order for it to be considered usable.
