Book Description

Nothing gives art fraud investigator Luke Morganstern a bigger rush than busting forgers, the low-life criminals who dare victimize true artists. But when his latest job sends him to a remote cabin in the Oregon Coast Range, he’s stunned to discover the alleged forger is his former lover, Stefan Cobbe, the most gifted painter Luke has ever known.

Stefan, left homeless and destitute after the death of his wealthy partner, doesn’t exactly deny the forgery -- he claims he doesn’t remember, an excuse Luke can’t accept.

But Luke’s elderly client suggests Stefan may be telling the truth and presents another possibility – a dark presence in the woods, a supernatural fury simmering for decades. Luke must face down his fear of the uncanny – and admit his feelings for Stefan – if either of them is to survive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rediscovered love, ghosts and redemption October 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Northern Light is a delight times ten. The story transported me to the Oregon Coast and I could almost smell the clean air. Heh. For a short novella, the author provided an enormous amount of story filled with the emotion of two very different male characters. Both of which carried their past wounds for me to see and adore them for who they were. Flaws and all. I love the storyline of love winning out, no matter what state you're in. Dead or living.

Can't forget the ghosts! In a way, I saw the ghosts as an echo of the two living male leads. The story is beautifully played out with suspense, mystery and romance with a capital L.

I'm not a great fan of romance novels, I'm more into fantasy, but Ms. Russell shows great sensitivity, tenderness and sexual tension in her writing making me a believer in and a desire to read more romance novels. At least, if they are written as well as Northern Light.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Read October 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book definitely had it's moments that made my skin crawl. or made me want to look over my shoulder! The characters were very easy to like and the story line kept my interest from beginning to end! This is a M/M book, which I have never read before, but definitely worth a read. I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously Creepy 4.5/5 October 2, 2013
By Jess
Format:Kindle Edition
A delicious combination of estranged lovers, art forgery, and a terrifying tale of ghostly possession, Northern Lights was just the tale I needed leading up to Halloween.

Stefan and Luke's failed relationship years prior and the strain of Stefan's newest (if not illegal) painting endeavors added the perfect amount of emotional tension, and the chemistry that had brought them together in the past was still quite strong.

I loved Luke, with his phobia of mountain driving and the limp that plagued him daily, and Stefan with not only his painting for passion, but his despair over his failed relationship with Luke and even his stubborn pride that made me fall for him almost instantly.

Recommended for fans of estranged lovers finding their way back to one another, of wounded heroes, and chilling tales of ghostly possession.

A very solid 4.5/5 Stars

4.0 out of 5 stars booksbysteph says "Intriguing" September 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Investigator Luke Morganstern has found his "personal Holy Grail of art fraud" - a fake Arcoletti. Jeremiah Arcoletti was an American realist painter. He "[d]isappeared in 1945 along with all thirteen canvases from his last collection." Someone was painting Arcoletti's last collection and claiming them to be real. A mystery client of Luke's points him to a shack in the mountains. When Luke knocks on the door, he never thought he would see Stefan Cobbe.

Stefan and Luke were lovers and have not seen each other in seven years. Pride and jealousy pulled them apart but the love has never gone. Stefan is shocked by Luke's accusations that he is committing art fraud. To be honest, Stefan knew he was painting but he does not know what. He wakes up in the morning with no knowledge of what is on the canvas and he is always too scared to look. Can the man he still loves turn him over to the authorities for something he cannot remember doing, yet did?

I GIVE THIS BOOK: 4 Stars

Very interesting story. And it was made more unique by having the lovers be homosexual. I think that make the story more intriguing because I have not read many stories with same sex partners.

I got a little confused as to which ghost they were talking about at times but it had all the horrors of what a ghost can do. Did you know a ghost can put another ghost in their place? It made me laugh. This ghost story really makes you think and know that love transcends all time.

Until next time, live life one page at a time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Northern Light reveiw September 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a short story about possession by a ghost.

Luke is on a mission to find a forger and instead finds an ex-lover who seems to be a little off. Stefan is an artist and has no idea that he is being possessed by a dead artist. While the two try to overcome their past history, they must figure out what the ghost wants before someone gets hurt.

This story is intriguing with strong characters and vivid descriptions that draw the reader inside the plot. Plenty of chills, emotional turmoil, and romance add depth to this entertaining read.

This is a great story to read around the campfire on Halloween

3.0 out of 5 stars Good mystery, kind of creepy... September 30, 2013
By Angie
Format:Kindle Edition
Northern Light is a very short but good story about love lost, second chances, and ghosts. It follows art investigator, Luke, on his latest assignment. A forgery of a long since dead artist has made an appearance in a gallery, and Luke has been hired to find out where it came from. An art forgery isn't so unusual, except that no one has ever seen this painting in real life, only read descriptions. So who recreated it? His search leads Luke right to the doorstep of his ex-lover and painter, Stefan. Stefan doesn't exactly deny the accusations that he's forging art, because he can't exactly remember anything he paints. What follows is a slightly creepy ghost story with some romance thrown in as Luke and Stefan try to figure out what on Earth is going on.

I quite enjoyed Northern Light. I had never read about art investigators or forgers before, so I liked learning more about this field. I also really liked the characters. Luke and Stefan are both damaged men after losing each other, then their following lovers due to unexpected tragedies. The mystery was also interesting, even if it was predictable. It had just enough of a creepy vibe to be slightly dark, but without being scary. I always enjoy a good paranormal twist, and this story definitely has that, even if ghosts don't tend to be my thing. I just wish there had been more romance! I need more M/M romance in my life, so that one scene between Luke and Stefan wasn't enough! As it is though, I liked the story and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quick mystery to pass an hour.
