Book Description

September 1, 1992
The lighthouse keepers at Alaska's most remote outposts endured privation and loneliness to make the rocky, treacherous coast safer for sailors.
Now, as the abandoned structures crumble and a historic tradition fades, the keepers and captains tell their tales...stories of terrible shipwrecks, frightening storms, and simple joys.
These are the brave men and women who lived at the Northern Lights.

My grandfather, John DeMan, born in Holland, was enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and stationed at one of the lighthouses in Southeast Alaska. He himself is mentioned and was interviewed by the author.
