This is the most ridiculous method for making the Flying Geese block that I've seen in 20 years of quilting. Don't try this quilt if you are new to quilting, you risk being held back by time consuming, incomplete directions that may dictate disaster. More experienced quilters should be able to "rewrite" the directions with simpler, more reliable methods and still have a fine quilt.

Update 6/3/13: After hours of trying to make this quilt I finally gave up. I'll try to salvage what I have in a different quilt, but I no longer recommend this book to even an experienced quilter.

Sue Bouchard has created a really nifty pattern with stars showing up where you don't expect them. She makes the pattern easy to follow, with some really surprising border treatments.

Plan to make this pattern soon! Thank you for sending it so promptly. The colors are perfect for a Quilt of Valor.

I am very happy with this book. The instructions are well written and the illustrations are great. I have all ready made 2 projects using this book and have the third - a lap quilt - cut out and ready to sew. I would definitely recommend this book to quilters.

After reading this review I was skeptical of using this pattern. I admit it was confusing in the beginning, but after studying the directions I just finished cutting everything out. In order to follow the directions you need to take each step separately and mentally walk through it. Once I did that a few times it made sense. It's not a quick and easy pattern like the nine patch. It's a challenge for sure, but I have made over 3 dozen QID quilts and I am pleased with them all. This pattern does require patience and extreme focus but I think it's worth it. Anyone who quilts will tell you it isn't easy following someone else's directions and we all have our own way of doing things. All pattern instructions can be improved upon, no doubt about it.

I only gave it 3 stars because I am still in the process of making it. We shall see what I think after finishing it.
