While a lot of the accolades Rae & Christian received for their debut album, Northern Sulphuric Soul were focused around the individual vocal performances from Veba, Sharleen Spiteri (Texas), The Jungle Brothers, Jeru The Damaja, and Curt Cazal - the album was and still is a seamless UK dancefloor classic.

The slick beats and sweeping musical soundscapes are the result of an alliance between the DJ Mark Rae and the studio wizard, Steve Christian who cut their teeth in the early ‘90’s doing remixes for the likes of Jay Z, Omar, The Pharcyde and Mama Mystique.

Released in 1998, the album managed to tie together many disparate elements into a lush cohesive whole, bringing the best of hip-hop, DJ culture, soul, and pop together. With enough to please even the hardened hip hop head, the most discerning soul boy and the average pop fan, it represented a bold statement from a vibrant musical underground that provided a blueprint for a whole generation of new talented singers, MC’s, DJ’s and musicians.

Now remastered and reissued for 2004, this new version of Northern Sulphuric Soul will include 3 previously unreleased extra tracks (‘Time To Shine’, ‘Premonition’ and ‘Bacalau’), all-new artwork and sleeve notes written by Mark Rae.
