These "Easy to Make" books are wonderful. I'm certain that children would find them fun to put together and educational. I would like to see some informative text regarding the subject for the purpose of educating. My purpose in purchasing the books is to find ideas and patterns for unusual Gingerbread Structures. (Instead of the usual candy-covered entries.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Harder than it looks, June 12, 2011

I bought this for my 11 yr old dtr who has been doing units on different American indians groups this yr for school. This was a little hard for us to put together. Much more difficult than the Plains Indians village.

The pieces are on heavy weight paper, and the folds need to be done right the first time or they can throw off the rest of the structures. In this set there are some very small pieces also which are hard to keep in place long enough for the glue to set...don't know if diferent glue would do the trick - we used regular ol Elmer's school glue. Totem poles tend to bend instead of roll giving them an odd angular appearance. We eventually enlisted the help of her 17 yr old brother who is skilled at building and painting gaming figures to help and the job was done pretty easily after that. So I guess it is more the skill level of the operator than the piece.

That said it was a great educational aid for my dtr to see 3D figures of that culture.
