Northwestern Bell 52905 2-Line Corded Telephone - WHITE

I needed a few 2-line telephones for use when the electric power is out, and almost all new phones require house power to operate their LCD screens and other features, but do not function, even as basic phones, when the electricity is out. It is hard to find just a basic 2-line phone that operates off the phone carrier's copper-line power, especially because the phone carriers are pushing to have us convert to optical line phone systems (like Verizon's FIOS).

This Northwestern Bell phone, and a similar one offered by Amazon under the GE label appeared to be among the few models still available in suppliers' inventories. The features in this Northwestern Bell 2-line corded telephone make it a clear winner: even operating off the carrier's line power, it manages to support up to 13 memory slots and lights that show which lines are calling and which are in use, among other goodies. These features make it a clear winner, to my way of thinking, over the similarly-priced GE-labeled phone. And, the quality of the Northwestern Bell phone appears to be quite good. Certainly good enough to serve as my "go-to" phone in case of a power outage. I ordered two, and liked them so much that I have just ordered another two to replace aging wireless wall phones for which rechargeable battery packs are no longer available.

Lots of features and the phone will work in a blackout. Hard to beat this for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great no nonsense 2-line phone., February 19, 2009
This review is from: Northwestern Bell 2-Line Corded Phone (52905-1) (Office Product)
I needed an extra 2-line phone. I did not want all the bells and whistles I have on my main phone. This fit the bill. The price was about $24 including shipping. It works excellently. Very good voice quality. It does not have caller id, or blinking light for voice mail. However, if you are looking for a "plain Jane" 2-line phone this is the one!

This phone is perfect for a small store or office. Two lines allow us to process bankcard purchases and have incoming phone calls at the same time. Easy and uncomplicated. No training problems for staff or hassels in figuring out features. No frills phone that does all that I need it to do.

Agree with the comments about price, simplicity, and features. Four stars given because Ringer Equivalence Number and FCC registration number was not provided. It's required by the FCC to be on the phone instrument itself.

It's used in a restaurant with heavy use for a month and still works properly. I plan to buy another one and even if the second doesn't work so it still make me feel good!!!

It worked for about ten days then died. Even for a twenty dollar phone, it is of particularly cheap construction. Don't throw away the packaging if you get one. The company I bought it from offered to let me buy a new one (same model) and then use that packaging to send back the first phone -- at my own expense.

UPDATE: The company, DataVision, called to apologize. They offered to send me a new phone, apparently no charge, or I could get a partial refund, the cost of the shipping. I took the latter. I stick by my review of the phone (try the Northwestern Bell Easytouch II/6510-1, a much better phone) but I think more of DataVision now.

I received the phone and it worked when plugged in, but within a few days it was dead. I got an RMA but the cost to send it back was almost as much as I paid for the phone, so I now have a paperweight.
