1.0 out of 5 stars Install problems corrupting drivers/registry, May 20, 2009
My laptop was working great but my Norton antivirus subscription had expired so I purchased Norton 360 Premiere. After installing 360 my laptop refused to connect to the internet either wirelessly or via ethernet. I called Symantec support and they walked me through uninstalling 360. After uninstalling 360 the laptop would still not work. Symantec said it was a FiOS problem. I called Verizon and they walked me through some diagnostic tests (which they said Symantec should have done) and they concluded my registry and drivers were corrupted by the 360 software. Not their problem. Called back Symantec and their seemingly incompetent (would start to tell me to do one thing and then change their mind and have me do something different) support person had me delete all "norton" folders from my registry and restart. Still no access to internet. Symantec Says call verizon. Verizon now says that what Symantec did does not fix the registry and Verizon suggested I pay somebody like the "geek squad" to repair it. This may be a great product if it ever works but so far the problems it has caused and the poor support I have received from Symantec make me regret the purchase.

This review is from: Norton 360 Premier Edition 3.0 1User/3Pc [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Norton 360 version 3.0 is simply put everything you need to keep your computer save, up to date, and running smoothly. You get Norton Antivirus, On-line Backup, Botnet Protection, Norton Safe Web(tm), Network Protection, Automated Backup & Restore, Norton(tm) Insight, Antispyware, Norton(tm) Identity Safe, Firewall Protection, PC Tuneup, Norton(tm) Browser Protection, and Norton(tm) Pulse Updates.
Once you set the way that you want it to run, it does everything automatically. The help screens really help explain what every item in the program does and how they work. You can plan on spending about an hour setting it all up and after that you forget about it for one year.

So far this is the best Norton product I have seen. I have been a Norton user since they were writing software for DOS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, Convenient & Best of All...Works where others Failed, April 23, 2009
I've tried several anti-virus suites in the past year including McAffee and ZoneAlarm plus a few others...after getting a nasty computer virus that wrecked my hard-drive with one of the "other" well known products, I switched to this for a 30 day free trial then purchase at the end of the trial period. The purchase was easy, the transition seamless and the product by far the best I've used. Not only did it recognize the virus the others missed but it runs clean and fast in the background.

Very easy to install, this has all the features I can really use without the junk I don't need. I can install on up to 3 computers...perfect for home office, laptop etc use and it comes with free online backup storage with more available for purchase should you need it.

Automatic update feature is seamless and doesn't impact performance to any notable level. Comes equipped with the PC security suite, identity protection, automatic backup and PC tuneup in this premier edition. One user for up to three computers. Another excellent features is the availability of live help - which I've not had to use so cannot comment on how good/bad it is but it's available should you require it. There is a free 30 day trial available which I used prior to buying since I wanted to know how sluggish this was likely to make my computer...happily the answer was "barely noticeable". Updates, back-ups and the rest are stunningly quick and, after having lost work since I have a tendency to delay the back-ups...having an automatic and nearly seamless feature that does it for me is perfect. Deciding what to backup is just a matter of clicking which files or folders which are then sent to a secure - free - area on your account. Prices for additional storage are a bit higher but you have the option or selecting your own storage device, other secure online account or a combination of all of the above. It's simple to schedule or to set on automatic.

Zero conflicts with other software or system performance - nothing to complain about in that area whatsoever. Everything is intuitive, easy to use and designed for convenience. To me, the real value is the fact this was the only product out of three different ones that was able to correct the virus that wrecked havoc on my hard drive. Plain and simple, works well without the fuss or hassle. It is worth the extra price in my opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Norton 360 3.0 Premier, April 23, 2009
Installed on a Dell 6301 Duo CPU E8500@3.166 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM @ 1.99 GHz w/ Windows XP Pro 2002 SVC Pk 2 (would'nt put Vista on it when I ordered it) I'm sure that once they get this working it will be OK but as usual, the installation was a disaster. Got support online and they removed All old Norton, which of course they didn't put in the User Guide. The installation actually takes out some of the old stuff, but not all. So they removed all the older stuff that MY Norton ACCOUNT (their site!) had listed but the installation couldn't remove. Whatever, it didn't work so they removed my installation and installed it themselves. Still had Registry Repair Error and couldn't do a Diagnostic Report. Same error.

Well after 7 or so hours with disk defragging on my 4 drives and other scans they decided that the problem needed escalating, so they put me on hold for over 50 minutes! Called in on the 800 number and got it escalated quicker (disconnecting from the other guy, who never did come online).

After another Norton Removal and 360 installation, they ran it and got the same errors! Aother hour down the tubes!

So they said they'd escalate it to the engineering level. Will be more days, not hours, before they call me back to let me know the disposition.

I guess I could have just said TYPICAL Norton, but I actually got in touch with them online and on the phone! In the 5 years prior to this, I was never able to contact them and NEVER GOT NORTON SYSTEMWORKS installed on my laptop! Afraid to try this!

Having used Norton for a long time, I was looking forward to receiving this latest. This is the fastest, less intrusive product I have used to date, and having the online storage option is wonderful! I heartily recommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice program ... but ... for one problem, it conflicted with Media Center 2005, May 11, 2009
By
Tom Weiss (Central Arizona) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have used Miro Trend, Webroot, Mcafee, Kaspersky and Norton 360 V2. All of which have their own merits. Norton 360 V2 was the most inclusive, professional protection program I had used to date. But when my subscription ran out, I opted for Version 3. A big mistake ... read on.

I concur with javajunki's positive review except I had one dangerous conflict. WIN XP professional Media Center 2005. This conflict with Media Center (TV) was so bad, it froze everything, taking a power plug reboot. A senior (India) Norton tech, using remote connection tried to fix this problem to no avail. When the tech finished, he pronounced that it was Microsoft's problem (NOT). He then logged out, leaving me with my wireless mouse and keyboard not functioning. Fortunately, my old USB mouse and keyboard allowed me to get past my password and fix the startup services he had disabled. Now I have an additional (minor) system problem, presumably caused by his hand ... and the original problem persists. The program is sweet when I don't use Media Center. Later discovery disclosed hundreds of complaints on Nortons website blog regarding Media Center/Xbox and Norton 360 V3 freezes.

Why a one star rating? Well 2 stars lost for the tech who botched my operating system. He was there to help, not destroy. Another star lost due to lack of concern over the problems the tech caused. Repeated clear, concise emails were greated with special instructions to uninstall, try this, try that --. When I asked why at every step, I was greated with more try this, try that, only different ... each time! ... It was as if I were emailing differing robots ... 1 more star lost for not addressing my email questions/concerns.

Today I uninstalled Norton 360 v3 Premier and asked for my refund. Now looking for a replacement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overated and poor CS, August 26, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After loading 360 on my new hard drive, it prompted me to get some updates from the Norton web site, which I did.

Almost immediately, I began to experience problems. The worst was that XP was caught in a loop, whereby I could not even bring it up in Safe Mode.

I tried to reach Norton for help, but to no avail.

Bottom line: my old HD is back in the computer. Since it doesn't have the capacity to hold 360, the disk is in the box, and I'm out $70+.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, December 27, 2009
They have terrible customer service. I started to use AVG because it's free and much better than Norton. I was just waiting for my service to lapse on the Norton when they automatically charged my credit card to renew. It's in the FINE print when you sign up. You have to send like 10 emails to stop the automatic re-enrollement.

In order for you to get your money back after the automatic re-enroll you must sit through 30 minutes of the most mind numbing music ever composed. It's a 100% ploy to get you off the phone to stop the cancellation. I love rap, rock, classical, and pop. No person in their right mind could possibly sit through this music without holding it away from your ear.

Hung up a few times and called on different days. Each call was no less than 30 minute wait and some calls were automatic hang ups after connection. Took me 3-4 hours on 4-5 days to get refund.

NOT WORTH IT!!! Go with AVG...it's free and worked all the bugs that Norton left on!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad. New Norton. I like it., August 23, 2009
By
I am still a big fan of Bitdefender 2008. BD2009 was so bad I was forced to look elsewhere. I have used Norton in the past and swore I would never return.
I am happy to say that I am back. And I like it.

Not too intrusive nor is it baggy. Scans well and does not dog the system.

I would recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Danger, Will Robinson Avoid Norton 360, January 14, 2010
I have had Norton Anti-Virus software on my computer for several years with no problem. Last year, I signed up for automatic renewal and I received an email on Dec 5 that my Norton 360 was updated and was charged $84 on my credit card. Then I noticed Norton was mysteriously gone from my computer. I called their help line and after talking to 5 different people, they could not load the new version on my computer. When the new version was loaded, I could not access the internet. I took the software off of my computer and now I receive Explorer error messages every few minutes. The next step is pay someone to fix my computer and load another company's virus software. By the way Norton slows your computer down quite a bit
