This review is from: Norton 360 Version 4.0 1 User-3 PC [Download] (Software Download)
I have been using Norton for 7 years and after having tried many other Anti-Virus solutions it is easy to say Norton is always the most reliable and hassle free.
A few of the product comments here make this down-loadable version of Norton 360 sound hard to use, and that is just not the case. Getting this download version saved me $15 over having the boxed version shipped, not to mention it was instant. I had protection going 5 minutes after my order. Now I did already have a trial version of Norton 360 installed that I had downloaded directly from the Norton site. I just choose to purchase from Amazon after my trial version expired for 2 reasons. #1 I love Amazon. #2 The price at Amazon was way better than buying direct from the software vendors own website. I just purchased 360 here and used the license key Amazon gave me to activate my expired 30 day trial version. Even if I had not had the trial version already installed, purchasing and downloading this software from Amazon is not complicated at all, as some of the other reviewers would make you believe. Yes you do have to install the Amazon down-loader software. So what, it was super simple, and you can always uninstall it later if you wish. Once you install the down-loader which takes all of 30 seconds, you then download the Norton 360 software. You can then choose to install Norton 360 right from the downloader, however a backup copy of Norton 360 is added into a folder on your PC. On my windows 7 machine this location was at: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Amazon Games & Software It is named N360-ESD-17-6-0-32-EN.exe so if you can not find the folder just search for that on your PC. You can then easily burn that to a CD so you can install the software on 3 separate computers. Optionally you could also just transfer the .exe file over your network to your other 2 machines if you have a network setup in your home or office. I added screen shots of the down-loader and the path within amazon to access your license key after your purchase in the images at the top of this products page. After your order simply go to your Amazon account to get your product key. Just use the "Your Account" link and then under "Digital Content" select the link titled "Your Games and Software Library". Look for the orange "Your product key" button to access your license key. Super easy, and super fast! This is a great deal compared to having the product shipped in a Box on CD that you will just end up throwing away after your install anyway! Go Green and purchase this downloaded version of Norton 360!

Ye gods.
My Norton 360 subscription was about to expire. Norton wanted $70 for the renewal, so of course I opted for Amazon. I uninstalled my original software, rebooted, and installed the new one I'd just bought from Amazon. Everything worked great (at least on the Amazon end), but the Norton screen told me that I had one day left on my subscription. In other words, it didn't recognize the new installation/subscription. I went looking for online help and wound up with a customer service rep in India. I explained the situation several times, but he kept telling me that I had to renew my subscription. Then he offered me 30 free days - after which I'd have to pay to renew the subscription. BUT I JUST PAID FOR A NEW ONE, I yelled. Finally - after an hour - he asked for the product key Amazon had given me, and entering that in the renewal window took care of the issue. I'm leaving out a lot of excruciating detail. SO BEWARE: If you're already a subscriber and you're taking advantage of Amazon's highly favorable pricing, keep the product key ready. You'll surely need it.

Although I was unhappy with the fact that Norton 360 doesn't provide any security after the subscription expires, I finally decided to renew the subscription. I really resented paying the ~$70 to Symantecs for the express renewal so I decided to download from Amazon -- even if I had to reinstall. I already had the latest version of the software with all files updated on my Desktop and Laptop; therefore, I really didn't want to uninstall and reinstall the software again. Although there were reviews which painted a bad picture for the process and the customer support, my results were very good. After the subscription had expired, I purchased the download, downloaded the loader and software as directed, and retrieved the key from the Amazon website. Without using the software, I clicked on the express renewal alert from the expired installed version and found the window to insert the new key. After going through the activation phase, the subscription was acknowledged as 366 days before expiration. I attempted to update all the files and scan the system. Although the update window said everything had been updated, the "original code window" never recognized the antivirus updates. I subsequently rebooted the system, after which, everything is back to normal. It was great having to pay only $38 for a renewal key without the hassle of reinstalling the software. The second machine was as simple, just using the key. I should admit that I first tried to download and run the downloader from network storage which hangs windows; don't do that. Had to download to a local address. I don't remember if I needed to go through the downloading process just to get the key, but I did to be on the safe side. I sure as heck don't want to pay $70/ year for two machines with me being the only user. I finally rationalized the $38 would not be so unreasonable, particularly, just using the new key. Don't be afraid of the downloading process, just follow the directions carefully.

I did get the software installed on my computer and it works okay, but I never received a copy of the software onto my hard drive even though the instructions said I would. Since this is a 3 PC license I am concerned about not having the software I paid for and in the future and not being able to download it.
Also when I registered the software with Norton they have no record of the purchase so I am concerned about getting support. Fianlly, when I go to my Amazon account, the order does not appear. So I have nothing to reference if I want to get answers from Amazon. I won't buy any software with this process again until it is fixed.

I've installed Norton by D/L and CD, get the CD. If you have a problem and need to reinstall it, it's SO much easier with the CD in your hand.

Norton 360 Version 4.0 1 User/3 PC [Download] This is this best and easiest way to buy, if you have a copy of Norton 360 already installed. Just get your new license and open Norton 360, click on My Account and then go to renew subscription just enter your new license #. It is just that easy. I love all the repair programs, on Norton 360. Great program!

I had 1 day remaining on my subscription. I saw this download software and bought it immediately because I didnt feel like waiting 2-5 days for a shipment. The installation was very quick and easy. No problems whatsoever. I was a bit hesitant because of some of the negative reviews and I didnt want those problems but luckily I didnt have any problems. If you want a quick, environmentally free, CHEAP, and easy download..download this product. I was freaking out because I really didnt want to spend $70 on a renewal from Symantec. This was about $50 less and stress free. Hope this helps!

No Automatic Scan of Network Drives,

If you want this product to scan network drives - you will need to do so manually. Norton 360 does not scan network drives automatically - so comprehensive scans are not comprehensive at all...
Tech support is so-so....

Plenty of good and some bad to even things out,

Scored this product as a download and found even a non tech-head such as myself had no real issues with it. Which was a surprise because let's face it when some boffin or company calls things easy to install and user friendly it instantly makes you nervous! But this thing installed just fine and it's basic functions - ie when you want to run a scan - are fairly straight forward. Which makes this a good product for the non expert just wanting to protect their family computer. Furthermore I've been using Norton for a few years now and it seems pretty good at nailing incoming nasties. I have had a few get through but have always used a second virus protection as back up.
However the problem with this product is.... well despite what some people say it does appear to slow computers down. Not to mention it obsessess over this backup waffle. As soon as I installed this I got relentless messages about how my disc space was low. Huh? It kept on asking to back up files and eventually I gave in, uninstalled a bunch of things and then my trusty Norton 360 decided rather gleefully to fill up all the room I just made. Don't know how, don't know how to reverse it, can't get my machine to a computer store as I live in a remote part of my country (currently cut off by the tropical wet season as I write - only way outta here is by air). Hilariously the product now warns me my settings aren't up to date as I've not uploaded new settings. However I can't do that anyway as there is now no longer enough disc space of my system left to do so! In some ways a very good product and I did find the install/set up pretty good and I do trust it to keep out most unpleasant things. Perhaps if I had a massively powerful machine but I don't, just an old one that has been given an almighty bitchslap by this program. All up I hope this review may warn off those with older machines that don't have a gazillion miles of hard drive space to beware of this product. Alas for me it is too late.... one of the programs I uninstalled was my other virus protection program... so now I'm kinda stuck with this. |
