My Professor, Dana Gioia, hates this book. He's constantly correcting misinformation in the biographical notes and criticizing the opinions of the authors.

With that said, I'm glad I own it (hence 3 stars instead of 1). There's a great selection of poetry and, for what it's worth, the biographical sketches are informative. Also, the essays, prefaces, letters, etc. from the poets in the back can be quite interesting.

If you're just looking for a good selection of poets and poems, this is great. If you're looking for something better than that, I suggest you look elsewhere.... then again, you can find all of these poems on line anyway.
