Works perfectly - with Win 98 and Zone Alarm,

I'm sorry to read that some customers have had problems. In my experience, NAV is effective and effortless to install and use. I am using an overburdened IBM Thinkpad laptop running Windows 98 SE and have had an entirely positive experience with NAV. It installed without a hitch and has had no conflicts with Zone Alarm or any of the other Internet and security software I am running. NAV is an essential tool - highly recommended.

I've installed and maintained a slightly earlier version of this product on over 40 computers on a campus network, on NT, 95 (yes!), 98, ME, and 2000. Only once have I had a hitch with installation. Though this was annoying, the symantec site had correct, detailed instructions for the getting around the bug. Several of these computers run Outlook, the most vulnerable e-mail software, but they are set to update definitions daily. With updated definitions and auto-protect on, I've never had a virus trash a computer. NAV has caught and quarantined around 50 viruses in the past year (that users have notified me about), and users have probably deleted some viruses on their own. It can't be perfect, but it's track record for me has been nearly perfect.

No Hitches, surprise, surprise!,

A computer user of only average skill, I was prepared to be frustrated when my laptop needed a security upgrade. Reviews of most products, including reviews on Amazon, are rife with nightmares, complications, and dissatifaction with the general level of difficulty that accompanies AntiVirus software.Surprise, surprise! The product is a simple as anyone could wish to install (and I've tried the online updates: equally simple) with concise directions and clear prompts. The defaults were appropriate for me, but there was obviously room for sophisticated users to customize the configurations. I am happy with the product and relieved by the ease of installation. An average user can buy this item with confidence.

I feel confident and comfortable that any website I visit, or possible virus I may inadvertantly come into contact with will be detected and disabled, thanks to Norton Antivirus 2002. Well worth the investment; especially with free updates for a year.

This program truly is the king of Anti-virus software. It's auto-protect feature, which automatically scans files downloaded from the internet and copied from a CD or floppy really makes me feel secure. The automatic virus-definition updater also ensures that you have the maximum possible protection. All of this without my having to think about it: it's just always there and always working.

Seems to work smoothly, hands free operation,

While I have no evidence of the effectiveness of this product at flagging virii or trojans, it did seem to work smoothly. The one aspect that made it more comfortable for me, compared to McAffee was that it was very unobtrusive. It doesn't bug you, and everything is completly hidden from view. It didn't appear to hog resources too badly, however I'm running a 2GB intel4 with 256MB of RAM.The auto-update feature didn't seem to work at times, but I usually update manually at regular intervals anyway. The update process was smooth without having to sit and cross your fingers and hope that it didn't lock up your entire system, as was the case with McAffee. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and it seems to integrate seamlessly with the OS. Again, I have no means of knowing how effective this program is at detecting and eliminating virii, but it does work smoothly with few if any bugs.

I have to keep reinstalling the product. And, as its old, it cannot truely protect your machine from the modern viruses; and i have kept up with updates.

Not compatible with Win 98,

While Symantec states that Norton Anti Virus 2002 Pro is compatible with Windows 98, I am here to tell you... NOT! It also has some problems working with the Zone Alarm firewall. I had to completely reload Win 98 three times (to include reformatting my hard drive twice) and still could not get the software to work. I tried to resolve the timing conflicts in they system files its install created, registry fixes, loading in safe mode... you name it, I tried it. I consider myself a competent Windows user and I'm stumped. Symantec support could not make this software useable. The tips they passed did not resolve the problem. Instead of "effortlessly protecting my system" NAV 2002 Pro turned into 10+ hours of formatting and reloading my system.

It is impossible to install. I found it very difficult and still not be able to. The symantec site is very complex and many issues for installation.
