5.0 out of 5 stars Very Easy To Install and Works Great
I was able to install this on 3 computers without incident. The computers had older version of NAV, and I just de-installed those copies, rebooted, and then installed NAV 2006. Piece of cake on Windows XP Home.

I assume it is working great because I have no viruses, and it has stopped Spyware on several ocasions.

I like that it updates itself...

1.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly bad installation program
I spent 3 days trying to get this installed. I think the complication was that I had Norton Systemworks 2005 and wanted to add the NAV 2006 on top of it. Well I finally got it done, but not until I'd restored my system to a backup from before I'd installed NSW 2005. At that point I had NSW 2003 installed. I had to manually uninstall that and remove tons of entries...

I had to manually uninstall that and remove tons of entries from the registry. Norton's automated uninstall failed over and over so I gave up on that and did it by hand. Then I installed NSW 2005 with NAV. When I went to install NAV 2006 it was unable to uninstall the old version. So I had to restore the system again. This time I installed NSW 2005 without NAV. I was then able to install NAV 2006. It is working now. It just shouldn't be this difficult!

I like that it updates itself with new Virus files, and can also be sceduled to do a weekly full scan during off hours.

1.0 out of 5 stars Customer Service is an Oxymoron, May 12, 2006
This review is from: Norton AntiVirus 2006 Protection Pack - 3 User (CD-ROM)
Bought the 3pack for home use. Installed it on two pc's and then had defective a defective new pc that it was installed on and removed. NOW, it won't let me activate on the new computer - their system is flawed!!!! They want me to mail in original invoice, unlock code and disk and THEN they'll see what they want to do. This will all take at least 2 to 3 weeks, in the meantime there is no protection on this computer. HAAAAA!

They really need to have a specific code for each activation so that it updates to the active computer it is being used on - they really could figure this out. They're taking the easy way out and getting more $$$ in the process.

This combined with all other slow down issues, I'm switching to ZONE Suite, as I've used Zone Alarm for years and it is great.

Best of luck.

2.0 out of 5 stars Program works fine, if you can get it installed, September 24, 2006

This program works after it's installed, but the installation process is unbelievably flawed. If you have a version of Norton on your computer already, this may cause all kinds of problems with the new installation. Not only did I have to uninstall all versions (after Norton lets you install the new one), but I had to make a bunch of changes to Windows, also.

On top of that, while you're struggling to install (I got it on to one computer easily, a second with some difficulty, and the third... well, it's been several days of struggle), Norton counts down the number of days in the subscription. So if you install on one computer today, and another two months later, then your subscription on all your machines still expires a year from now.

I don't see how Symantec can put out a program that doesn't allow you to upgrade easily... after all these years, they can't fix this major bug? That's just pathetic.

1.0 out of 5 stars One year protection is bogus, April 16, 2006

This review is from: Norton AntiVirus 2006 Protection Pack - 3 User (CD-ROM)
I installed NAV on one of my computers, but not on the others because they already had a NAV subscription. When I installed on them 7 months later, Norton tells me I have only 5 months coverage remaining. Aparently it starts the subscription for all three licences at the same time, whether they are installed or not. Makes it rediculous to buy a 3-licence pack unless you need all 3 at once. That, added to the other problems with Norton, such as being a memory hog, means that I'll probably switch to some other anti-virus for my next subscription.

1.0 out of 5 stars Installation Nightmares with NAV 2006, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Norton AntiVirus 2006 Protection Pack - 3 User (CD-ROM)
So far I have tried unsuccessfully to install this on 2 computers. I ended up giving up and purchasing antivirus software from a different vendor.

I had NAV 2005 installed on both computers. On the first one,the subscription was due to expire. On the second, the subscription had already expired about a week before.

The installation failed on computer 1 and after uninstalling and trying to reinstall, the program would not go to the activation page and therefore would not start. After spending 10 to 15 hours over 3 or 4 days going back and forth Symantec Tech Support via e-mail, chats, and automated tech support I gave up and installed PC Shield Pro antivirus and firewall which worked like a charm. It is frustrating to deal with Norton as they do not provide realtime phone support for their product. Since you have to restart your computer every time after trying the solutions they suggest, when they don't work, you have to queue up again for tech support and wait 10+ minutes every time you try to reconnect with them.

When I tried to install on computer 2, at the required pre-installation scan, I got a message that there were problems that would prevent the program from installing but no specific instructions as to what to do. After the experience I had with the first computer, I decide to forget about it and install PC Pro Shield antivirus and firewall on that computer too.

If you are thinking about purchasing this product, think again, save your money, and purchase PC Pro Shield.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very hard to install, March 10, 2006

It took about 15 hours per machine over a week period go get Norton AntiVirus to install and activate. Had to send a lot of emails to Symantec Tech Support. Most responses did not work, and required one to almost be a super administrator to understand what all had to be done, such as registry edits, customizing startup with msconfg, and understanding directions that did now work as Symantec said they would. Then after 4 days, one of the AntiVirus installations stopped working, requiring another 8 hours to re and re and re-install.

After installed, it worked. An incredible time consuming product to install.

Norton Antivirus is a good protection program when it installs properly...which is seldom.

I have spent a week reinstalling Norton Antivirus 2006, finding new tech documents, running programs that uninstall all of my Symantec products. Still Norton Antivirus will not update with Live Update. I waited for a week for my first response from tech support, now I am waiting for my next tech support.

When I installed the second license 51 days after I installed the firs, I only received 314 days of subscription. My next subscription expires in 6 months, so I guess I will only get 4 months extension on that subscription. Buyer BEWARE!

1.0 out of 5 stars Won't work after MS Windows upgrade., April 29, 2006
This review is from: Norton AntiVirus 2006 Protection Pack - 3 User (CD-ROM)
Bought this 3-pack about 2 months ago (three computers at home) and worked ok- no viruses. Then I did what I thought was a clean install of XP Pro from XP Home on one of the computers, and it carried over a lot of garbage from XP Home I wanted to get rid of, but that's another issue (clean install?}. After installing XP Pro, I was warned I didn't have virus protection and so I tried installing my NAV again. You would think at some point NAV would have enough brains to try and establish that this was a Windows upgrade, and that the NAV was legitimate. Nope- fatal error and computer lock-up, which I was able to survive. No contact opportunity at the Symantec web site.

I simply opted for Microsoft's recommended anti-virus software- Computer Associates. Another twenty. Then I had a heck of a time uninstalling NAV, which wouldn't install and now wouldn't uninstall. What a waste of time and money. Who creates these viruses? We certainly know who benefits from them.

There is really nothing you can do- they are immune unless they hurt someone with media clout. This little note means diddily, but thanks to Amazon anyhow for the opportunity to say something.
