1.0 out of 5 stars works fine until you need service January 24, 2014

I am not sure how the best way is for this message to get sent to as many people as possible. I ask that you repost if you feel inclined to do so. The warning is to keep you from getting involved with a company called iYogi. They are the folks who now handle tech calls to Norton Internet Security. Their job is to provide service for Norton but in fact their job is to sell you something you don't need. I have been forced to use them twice and neither time could they identify or help with problems that were quite easy to fix and required only basic knowledge of the products they are supposed to be experts on. SO BEWARE OF iYOGI! Here is my story .... I have been a Norton customer ever since the first time I took a computer online. Never in my life have I experienced the frustration – anger and total incompetence that I have with their service.

The first attempt was when they upgraded Internet Security and the look and feel of the password vault changed. I could not figure out how to close it – as it was not marked. I looked all over their support website to see if I could find it. I gave up and the number I was told to call turned out to be iYogi. Not only was this person’s whose English horrible, he did not have a clue how to help – he seemed totally uninterested in doing so but rather how much he could sell me! He had no idea what I was talking about and I would think surely the techs are trained in Norton software. Hmmm…. Then the invasive software he placed on my computer did not go away as he promised it would as soon as we concluded our conversation.

As it turned out I solved the problem completely by accident and located the little yellow box in the bottom right corner (which BTW is now labeled).

1.0 out of 5 stars A Disaster December 3, 2013
Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
Installing NiS 14 was a complete disaster. I installed it to replace NIS 2013, which was about to expire. My computer is a Sony VAIO about three years old with Windows 7 Home Premium installed from the outset. This was been a completely trouble-free machine. There is plenty of disc space available. The OS is completely up to date, and NIS 2013 ran just fine. But NIS 2014 brought it to its knees. After suffering for several days, I removed it and the computer works normally again. Removing it was a long, involved process in itself.

I've used Norton for as long as I can remember, but this is the end. There are other products out there that rate as high or higher.

1.0 out of 5 stars Norton Forced Purchase February 24, 2014

Not happy with Norton. When Norton 2013 expired on my PC this morning, Norton automatically disabled virus protection, spyware protection, and Smart Firewall. When I turned on my PC today, I received a separate popup message for each of those three services advising me they had been disabled. I am a long time Norton user and this is the first time this has happened. In previous years, when the product expired, it kept working but no longer updated the virus or spyware definitions and no longer updated the software. That would buy me a few days to get my act together and upgrade the software. Norton taught me over the years to not upgrade until the product expired because they started your year over from the date you upgrade. I then always had to call or chat and get them to add the new one year term to my unexpired existing term so I didn't get cheated out of any days.

Very unhappy that Norton left my PC vulnerable this morning by turning off protection. I would have purchased Kaspersky but it was unavailable by immediate download and I couldn't wait to protect my computer. I will replace Norton 2014 with Kaspersky at least when my now new Norton subscription expires and maybe much sooner.

Norton's customer service rep cut off our chat session with no warning. I was unable to re-connect to that particular customer service rep. The bottom line is that Norton's reps tell me it is not intentional on Norton's part to disable features and force me to upgrade. They say it is my fault for not renewing before the expiration.

This 2014 version will also automatically turn off all protection upon expiration. This practice is unacceptable to me.

Shame on Norton for such poor customer service practices.

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install, easy to crash April 9, 2014

I haven't found the perfect anti-virus, they all have their short comings. But I expected more from Norton. For the last couple of years I used a free version of AVG. AVG always bugged me how it would automatically run a scan everytime after the machine came out of standby. So it waited to do its work until I sat down at the computer to do mine, and then it slowed down the computer for next half hour while ran its scan. But it was free.

I finally decided I'd "upgrade" to Norton, thinking it is a big league anti-virus program that should be smart enough to do its job and not get in my way. It installs easily, and on the surface seems less of a hog on processing power and memory, running in the background. But I frequently have several windows open: msWord, Excel, and several tabs on Chrome, and just when things are running along smoothly, the Chrome window will freeze, where it can't scroll and then the dreaded msg that it "Has to Close".

I don't remember it ever doing this before I switched to Norton Internet Security. So I am not real happy about that.

Norton Internet Security may do a good job protecting against viruses, that's hard to know, but when I'm paying for an application that appears to cause problems and crashes during normal operation of the computer I can't recommend it.
