Book Description

February 1, 2003
Norwegian Rosemaling that is simplified to make sense for younger people. Painting and decorating many simple pieces available from the local craft store, Diane Edwards has created a book that helps children or absolute beginners to understand the craft of Norwegian Rosemaling. There are many color pages of strokes, colors and projects that can be done individually or in a camp or club situation. She uses simple glass pieces and ornaments and breaks down the decoration into single stroke approaches.

There is also a history of Rosemaling and information about finishing old and new pieces of woodenware. An excellent book for someone who wants to try Rosemaling without a lot of work or expense.

More About the Author

I am the author of eight books on Swedish and Norwegian Folk Art...painting primarily on wood and traditional objects made from wood such as plates, bowls, trunks, boxes and other handmade wooden pieces.
My books are written for the beginner to intermediate painter who would like to learn how to do the traditional Swedish and Norwegian painting known as rosemaling or kurbits painting.

I spend lots of time doing research on the old painting from 1700 through the 1900's in Sweden and Norway. The type of paint and brushes they used, the various designs they created and all the history pertaining to that style and type of painting. I am very interested in the colors and types of background paint that was used in the early 19th and 20th centuries and how to emulate it with the paint that we have available today.

I have also written a book with Sigmund Aarseth, called "Aarseth's Rosemaling Design which was written in 2001 and have editted several of his books, namely "Painted Rooms", a book about the rosemaled and decoratively painted interiors that Sigmund has painted; and "Sigmund Aarseth: Norway Painted in Light and Color" which is a book about his landscape painting.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a book for young people, March 27, 2006
This review is from: Norwegian Rosemaling for Young People (Paperback)
This is a book with very basic rosemaling information for everyone interested in rosemaling, concentrating on the Telemark style. It tells you how to create your own Telemark style designs, how to paint on glass ornaments, and provides clear instruction and photos on executing the basic rosemaling painting strokes. It also provides instructions for many easy and inexpensive first projects.

4.0 out of 5 stars unclear directions, November 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Norwegian Rosemaling for Young People (Paperback)
I wanted a simple basic introduction to rosemaling, and was mostly satisfied with the instructions, but Ifound some of the information was unclear and confusing. This might be a good text to use as part of a class, but not very helpful for going it alone.
