Leader of operation RYPE - OGs leader from US, Bill Colby double-crossed?,

Chapter 15, "The Tragic Delivery of the RYPE Mission", page 70, quote; "In January 1945, the advanced party traveled by air from Scotland to the target area. On board were Lt. Tom Sather, T/Sgt. Borge Langeland, S/Sgt. Arne Listeid, and a Norwegian liaisson officer with the code name Hoel (Herbert Helgesen from Trondheim). ....... The advance party was fortunate it did not drop.....the Germans must have been aware of Operation RYPE. A large German ski party was dispatched from Steinkjer to Gauptjernet that night....."unquote.
> Comment: The Norwegian Liaisson officer Herbert Helgesen was one of the leaders of Milorg in mid Norway with direct contact to Milorgs top man Jens Chr. Hauge. Hauge was a key architect and backplayer for the left wing coup in Norway in May 1945. Hauge had contact with Moscow as well as the Germans during wartime. |
