Truly Amazing book...,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nos: Book of the Resurrection (Paperback)
This is a Truly Amazing book. I have never read anything like it before. Serrano describes his work:
"The whole of my creative work falls outside the boundaries of any specific literary genre; it is neither a poem, nor a novel, nor a philosophical essay, although it contains all of these." (from the first page of the introduction in Nos). I would add to the categories: Myth, and Esoteric spirituality, although this doesn't come close to doing it justice. Also, this book is a Romance. Another excerpt from the first page of the introduction in Nos: "In NOS, Book of Resurrection I have been forced, as I said, to violate the aesthetic formula, so as to introduce lengthy semi-conceptual, but always symbolic, passages, which apparently break through the web of a parallel world in order to situate themselves in another one - thus forming the arrows which assassinate time. Of course, they are the defects which are necessary for a grandiose ultimate diapason. ('This face does not have enough ugliness in it to be truly beautiful.')" In Nos, Book of Resurrection, Serrano goes into the topics of El/Ella, or HIM-HER and HER-HIM (The origins and meanings of the sexes), A-MOR (Loveless love, also Without death, or eternal life), time, cyclic time, The Golden Age, Kali Yuga (Dark Age) spirituality, the "ego," Carl Jung, myth, history, a LOT of symbolism (but never in a boring way) The Black Sun, The Ray of Green Light, the origins of men/Gods. The whole book ties in uncountable references to traditions, religions, esoteric spirituality, history, language, myth...you name it. And the whole book is told in the form of a story, with characters, a narrator at times etc. If you really want a taste of what this book is like, I found an excerpt online here: [...]. All I can say is this was one of the most meaningful, symbolic books I have ever read, and undoubtedly THE most beautiful book/poem I have ever read. *****Important notes: 1.This book is an extension...or builds off of "EL/ELLA, Book of Magic Love" which is also available in English. I have not read this book yet, and still found this book amazing, but I would suggest reading EL/ELLA first for a better understand. 2. There is an dictionary of terms in the back of the book which explains many of the terms used in the book, I would suggest checking it frequently, and reading it in full at the end in order to gather the best understanding. |
