Ex-lead singer of Os Tuberoes goes solo,
By A Customer
This review is from: Nos Morna (Audio CD)
A great album, but doesn't quite live up to the standard he set with the Tuberoes (the sharks) a group that was arounf more than twenty years in Cape Verde. But at the same time by itself this is a splendid disc.

Elegant mornas,
By Makuta (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nos Morna (Audio CD)
I love Cape Verde music, and, even though I was a fan of Os Tubaroes, always went by the (mistaken) notion that male singers could not match the soulfelness of Cesaria Evora or Titiana. I was wrong. "Nos Morna" is just that--a sequence of "mornas", the melancholic song form which has, for the most part, passed out of fashion. Ildo Lobo apparently recorded this as a tribute to his father, and it is a beautiful and moving collection, one that I listen to again and again. Ildo Lobo wrote only one of these songs, but they are all gems, and very distinctive, a tribute to the flexibility of the genre and the form.
