I love home made ice cream so when my freezer died after working for more than 10 years I decided to get a new one. After reading all the reviews and hearing how the other less expensive freezers (almost all makes) seemed to have problems with plastic gears shattering I decided to spend a little more and go with this one. The wooden tub holds in the cold better than the thin plastic tub of my old machine so I get by using less ice. The motor seems robust and is much quieter than my old one. I like the fact that this freezer has an on-off switch so you don't have to unplug it when the ice cream is finished. I have only one, very minor, complaint. There is no marking on the freezer tub (most have an indented line) so you nave to guess when filling it with mix. I overfilled it the first time and had ice cream coming out from under the lid. I would suggest that you fill it no more than 3/4 full or maybe a little less. Other than that I recommend it highly.

I did my homework before buying this and it truly paid off. This is a great machine for a great price. I highly recommend this ice cream maker. Easy to assemble, use, and clean.

I purchased this product a few weeks ago while it was apparently on sale ($49). The item shipped 4 days after I ordered it (a little longer than I was used to from Amazon). However, it arrived in good shape. I unpacked the ice cream maker and was pleased to find that all the parts were accounted for. I successfully made a batch of caramel macchiato ice cream without a hitch. It froze well, wasn't grainy, etc... That may have had as much to do with the recipe as the machine itself, though. Also, the recipe made around a quart, so it will be interesting to see how well the ice cream maker freezes and churns a gallon recipe. But so far, so good!

I never thought I'd be making my own ice cream. With this machine (mine was a gift), it's so easy. After reading the instructions my first receipe was the one included for "Easy chocolate ice cream". It was absolutely delicious. I should have added a little vanilla flavoring. I added crushed almonds after it was finished churning. It's a bit more expensive to make your own ice cream, but I want to be sure what I'm eating. The wooden bucket is so cute and I didn't have any problems with leaks or such (mentioned in a couple of other reviews). It makes four quarts if you follow the recipes included with the instruction booklet. The electric churn (dasher) took about 45 minutes. The cool thing is the dasher (churner) will stop when the ice cream is ready. The machine makes some noise (not too loud though).

I used a bag of ice from the local grocery store and Morton Kosher Salt (blue box). I did not need to get any rock salt or special ice cream salt.

When the ice cream was finished there was salt and ice left - I refroze it to recycle and use it with the next batch of ice cream - (hope it works !)

There also a website for the company. If you have any other questions about this machine.

Got the ice cream maker right on time, as advertised. Made the first batch on July 4 using a recipe I found on AllRecipes.com. The gallon of peach ice cream lasted about 15 minutes under the onslaught of 10 family members. I fear I have created a monster. Demands are pouring in for a reprise of the peach, and to make a try at strawberry. I could well finish the summer considerably more spherical than I am now.

The wooden bucket is fairly hefty and robust. The motor assembly seems a little light weight, likewise the hardware and fasteners, but, so far, it all seems up to the job. Instructions are straightforward, no problems there. It was easy to clean. I'm liking this. A lot.

A forewarning to those who may be purchasing this item. It is a completely different product. The ice cream bucket pictured and described has two metal locking mechanisms on the sides of the completely wooden bucket. The item you get is a plastic bucket with wood slats affixed to the outside of the bucket. There are only slots in the plastic bucket for the motor housing to slide into.

I researched this ice cream maker first on BB&B. It was pictured the same as Amazon. I picked one up in the BB&B store in a different city, brought it home, and it's also the one without locks for the motor. It must be Nostalgia's error, but both BB&B and Amazon need to correct it. The item is $10 cheaper at BB&B with a 20% off coupon.

I'm returning the one to Amazon and will keep the other one and give it a try since I can see I won't be finding the one pictured. I have found Amazon's customer service always to be outstanding in a world of really crappy customer service--something I appreciate and it keeps me coming back.

I bought this based on the reviews for a Father's Day gift. It worked amazing and churned out some A+ homemade ice cream. You won't be disappointed.
