We made chicken skewers, those worked great.

There is always too much at the center on top of the filling, and not enough at the ends.

I am a big fan of the Nostalgia brand, and a big fan of snack foods.

Face it: everything in life is better on a stick.

Unless it's from this machine.

I'm not worried about the quality of the recipes. I tossed that little booklet after a quick perusal. Anything you would normally make without the advice of the Nostalgia test kitchens will work just as well as these batters.

But the drawbacks are numerous.

First, as addressed in other reviews on other sites, the mini size requires cutting your hot dogs in half.

Not a big problem as world problems go.

However, the MAJOR problem is, be it a hot dog or any other "center", you will NEVER get the batter to coat right.

There is always too much at the center on top of the filling, and not enough at the ends. This winds up looking like a chunky maxi pad with wings on a stick -- flat ends, bulbous middle. Ugly and not something I'll present to guests.

The other ideas in the book have nothing to do with batter, but honestly, why I would need a jazzy waffle iron contraption to make a teriyaki skewer or faux tempura is beyond me.

Worst of all for presentation (versus family dining): the ferkoktah NOSTALGIA logo is embossed into each snack you make. I need my guests to know the brand of utensils I used to serve them an appetizer? Should my fondue parties have a sponsorship banner that says "Brought to you by the American Dairy Council"? My steak dinners should be interrupted by Robert Mitchum announcing, "Beef: it's what's for dinner," (Dunht-dunht-dunht)?

No thanks.

It went back into the box after a few different attempts, and is shipping off to one of the kids in college. Drunk and hungry in the middle of the night, I'm sure this is the perfect appliance...

[Note: hungry and nocturnal, yes; but in no way do I truly imply my kids are drunks. Says the hopeful Daddy...]

I received this snack maker by Nostalgia for Christmas and it doesn't make a full length corn dog as I wished.
You do have to cut the hot dogs in half. Just as described it's a "SNACK MAKER" . It's great for making party snacks. I still love it

WORKS WELL WITH OR WITHOUT A STICK. USED IT FOR CORNBREAD STICKS, BOTH PLAIN AND JALAPINO CHEESE, DOES FINE. COOKED A PANCAKE BATTER WITH CHOPPED SAUCAGE, EVERYONE ENJOYED THEM.

Mine included a stand and a tin as well as the machine and sticks. I was pretty excited to play with it and immediately made corn dogs. The wells are much too small for your standard hot dog, the width doesn't allow any batter along the sides. We're going to try again with bun length - we're also hoping the longer length will take up more of the well because standard hotdogs leave a large amount of cornbread only on the top and bottom. We also bought some lil smokies to try.
Next morning we made pigs in a blanket on sticks. Those were much more successful & we've already bought more sausage to repeat.
We made chicken skewers, those worked great. (Pre-assembled at the store)
My only complaint is I'd rather than less large wells than these teeny ones. Even our small family of three required running the machine several times to get much to eat.

Tried a different batter, as the batter in the book was tasteless and thin, Then the batter stuck to the whole pan, would of been a better product if the actually grooves of this product would of come out so it would be easier to clean.

Everybody loves to eat food off a stick and it's got a lot of good recipes to try. Great for party appetizers.

Love my new corn (or whatever you want to put on the stick) maker. Like others have noted, you do have to cut the hotdogs in half, but that's ok by me.
