Gave this to my sister for Christmas, she loves it.
Lynne
The hot mold does a good job of stamping the heart shaped dough into the traditional pretzel knot.
Gayle
I had such high hopes but alas I can't recommend this to anyone.

I bought this machine worrying that it'd be hard to make pretzels, especially for me, who had never made pretzels at home before (I'm Vietnamese). I only found 1 review on Walmart.com (none from Amazon) & decided to give this machine a try today & gave my husband a "wow" :) & He did! :)

It took only about 2.5' to 3' for pretzels in the pretzel maker to be cooked. The 1st try, I was slow so I couldn't make 2 pretzels at the same times for the machine! (I used the "Auntie Anne's at-home baking it) to make pretzels. The 2nd try: I prepared them ahead so I could make 2 pretzels at once :) I didn't try to make the dough myself as I can guess it takes too much time! Buying Auntie-Anne's at-home mix is much easier for me. Besides, this mix very often has coupon inside the box : buy 1, get 1 free so it makes 2 boxes for only around $5)

I tried the small pretzel cutter. Small pretzels are more crunchy than the big ones (it took more time each but has more tiny pretzels, so I'll stick on the big one mold- easier :)

I posted some photos for your reference. Hope they help! :)

Update: I've been using this machine more than 8 times & every time, the pretzels came out very nice & I can make them faster now as I've more experience.
My husband said my pretzels looked like the ones at stores! I'm very pleased with the product! :)

Update 2: I've been using this product 15 times. The machine works as a charm! My neighbor was very surprised seeing my pretzels!

My husband bought this for me as a gift. I scoffed - out of earshot - at the idea of making 2 pretzels at a time when I could bake an entire panful in the oven. Starting from scratch with homemade dough, it took me 2 hrs from start to final clean-up to make one batch of 14 "jumbo" pretzels. Next time will be considerably faster, but this is not a snack to just "whip up."

The instructions are lacking in some key areas: thickness of dough (about 1/3"), clarity regarding the intent of the spring on the cutters (do NOT press the spring when trying to cut, but only if the pretzel sticks in the mold after lifting the cutter from the board), how to tell when the pretzels are done (when the green light goes off - no timer necessary). I figured out only at the very end of the first batch that a quick dip in the water-soda bath and then straight to the cooking plate makes for much less floppy dough than the recipe in which 45 seconds of soaking was called for.

Clean up was a breeze. And no, the plates are NOT dishwasher safe as advertised in the box. The inside directions clearly indicate otherwise. But the unit cools to touch relatively quickly, the plates pop out and clean easily with soapy water. No scrubbing needed. Baked-on residue swishes off.

After my scoffing and minor annoyance with the directions, I was pleasantly surprised to find the quality of the finished product to be excellent. In about three minutes, I had a pair of fresh pretzels better than any I have ever had at a pretzel stand, chewy and soft and perfectly cooked all the way through. I blinked and three had disappeared into the maw of my teenager, who orders that I am not to betray the secret of their existence to his friends. I have to reluctantly admit that the pretzels were worth the time and effort.

I am a manager of Auntie Annes pretzels and I was given this as a gift kinda as a joke but its awesome!! I roll out the dough.. size of a pencil twist the dough in the air and then dip it in the bath wash.. bake and then brush with butter and salt and then yummy.. Thats the way we do it here at Auntie Annes..Or brush with butter and then add cinnamon and sugar blend. or you can add pepperoni on the top while baking and then dip in maranara sauce for pizza pretzels! a big seller here at the store.. we also roll in jalapenos in the dough then sprinkle on cheese before baking. and you get the real kind like at the store! ..Lastly for kids brush on a little butter and then add choco chips, crushed nuts, sprinkles or coconut, choco syrup for more fun..

Have fun!

Just made a full batch of pretzels. The included recipes are so easy and they turned out fantastic. They tasted just as good as the ones in the mall. My wife doubted that the machine would work but she is now a huge fan. Highly recommend.

This pretzel machine has been an amazing addition to our Sunday football gatherings and has been a huge hit! The machine is very easy to use, the recipes are completely on par, and the pretzels are delicious! It is very easy to over bake the pretzels, so I only bake a batch for 3 minutes at a time. For delicious pretzels, use the original recipe in the supplied book, add chopped green onions and minced garlic to the dough, brush baked pretzels with garlic butter, and then dip in the beer cheese recipe provided in the book - PERFECTION!!! Five stars for this product for ease of use, ease of cleanup, durability, and delicious pretzels!

I am quite familiar with nonstick pans and how not to scratch them. I didn't use any utensils (just my bare hands) and didn't touch the nonstick finish at all. It's really a shame that the nonstick coating is coming off the top and bottom of the large pretzel pans. Before I noticed this, we ate some and they were very tasty but I won't eat anymore since I don't care to ingest nonstick finish. I agree that the directions don't give any help as to how thick to roll the dough. I had no problem dipping the dough in the water before placing them into the molds. Wish the nonstick finish wasn't flaking off. Very sad :(
