5.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Book
The words of Nostradamus have never been more popular than at this very time. With the recent tragedies, many people are intrigued by his prophecies and their relations to modern times. Look no further for the most definitive book on the prophet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Difficult Read
As much as Im fascinated by Nostradamus and his prophecies, this book didnt capture me. I felt it was difficult to understand. Maybe it was just me, I dont know. I read other reviews that said the same thing. I might give it another try, I would have to be in the mood to try to decipher what Im reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Book, September 14, 2001

The words of Nostradamus have never been more popular than at this very time. With the recent tragedies, many people are intrigued by his prophecies and their relations to modern times. Look no further for the most definitive book on the prophet.

With the word for word French and English translations, this is the most complete, comprehensive collection of Nostradamus' prophecies. Each quatrain is accompanied by literary notes, historical backgrounds, geographical references, and intellectual theories.

NOSTRADAMUS AND HIS PROPHECIES also has a very thorough biography that is loaded with pertinent and interesting facts. A copy of his last will and testament and his letter to France's King Henry are also included in this amazing book.

What truly makes this book stand out is the indexes. The fantastic word index makes it so easy to find what you are looking for, the book practically reads itself. With a plethora of maps, illustrations, and genealogies, this is a very complete book that makes for interesting reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars The complete and definitive Nostradamus., July 23, 2000
This is the first and only published work that presents the complete prophecies and scholarly translations. This volume houses the first comprehensive translation. It is printed with a word for word translation from the French with the English translation on the facing page. Dubious wording is explained in notes within the text. The most famous interpretations, and also the author's, are presented in a commentary section. Indexes are provided for every level of reader, from the casually curious to the elite historian and researcher, which are essential for comparing the quatrains with references to geographical ,proper names, and themes that may be the predictions Nostradamus correlated with astrological alignments. The biography of Nostradamus is also the most complete one existing in English. His last will and testament and his letter to King Henry of France provides the much needed definitive examination of this remarkable man. Finally, a very exciting inclusion, is the the treatment by the author, entitled Background and Rules of the Game, in which the author queries, how and why did Nostradamus do it? A great Work!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Substance With Less Speculation, January 31, 2002
By
"johnesm" (Severn, MD United States) - See all my reviews
Edgar Leoni does a fine job with this book. Rather than engaging in superfluous speculation and spiritualization, Leoni simply translates the quatrains directly from French/Latin into English, and then compares the predicted events with possible matches to history. For predictions which haven't yet occurred, he gives an intelligent, straight-forward conclusion on its meaning, and does not hesitate to admit that some of the quatrains are simply to vague and obscure to pin down. This is also one of the few Nostradamus books to include all of the quatrains, as well as the preface and Epistle to King Henry II, in the correct chronological order. The index is very complete and easy to use. The only drawback is that Leoni wrote this book in 1960- if only he know what the rest of the 20th century would bring!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing word find index and historical research !!, May 12, 1999
By A Customer
This is the only book I've seen or heard of that has a word index, geographic area index, dated prophecy index, astrological allignments index and much more, allowing quickly finding quatrains with such references. This should immediately be republished, what an oversight with the mellinial interest and the famous 1999 quatrain, with many other possibly related quatrains. Edgar has some questionable interpretations, but for the most part, he has put together a researcher's dream here.I'm lucky the Library here has it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complete Works, September 21, 2001
By A Customer
I believe that this is the first published work that presents the complete prophecies and scholarly translations of Nostradamus. This book houses the first comprehensive translation and it is printed with a word for word translation from the French with the English translation on the facing page. The most famous interpretations are also presented in a commentary section. Indexes are provided for every level of reader, from those who are simply curious to the true historian and serious researcher. I also highly recommend a little book of Eastern wisdom called "Open Your Mind, Open Your Life" by Taro Gold which is filled with hundreds of amazing quotations of insight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book on the Legendary Medieval Prophet : Michel Nostradamas, October 15, 2007
By
This excellent Nostradamas book is by far the most detailed one about his life and his prophesies.Erika Cheetham also had an interesting short paperback ,published in the mid-1970s.Hers was a popular reading, yet not very weighty about the span of Nostradamas' life and his lesser known quatranes.People throughout the centuries have always read into the cryptic prophesies to fit their own current situation.Hitler and Hess read the books of Nostradamas and praised him for his keen vision on the awakening of German Nationalism and military might.Yet,Hitler and Hess ignored the later predictions on Germany's defeat. His legendary predictions on European noblity, world politics and scientific discoveries are still world famous. The most recent prediction of discussion is his one on 'fire and destruction in the New City'.This has for years been intrepreted as 'New York City'.He predicted that chaos would have occurred in the year 1999.The flipped numbers of 1666,the devilish year the infernal flames consumed much of old wooden London, all started from a baker's oven. It's really hard to say whether this jewish doctor from Salon,France had the power to see into the future.Eventhough Nostradamas had converted to the catholic faith,he still practised secretly his 'black arts of divination, herb magick and the occult'.Maybe there is a secret Nostradamas cult, like Adam Weishaupt's Illuminati, that was formed to ensure that his words are carried out and put into action.Even more strange is that many cultural chiefs and ancient soothsayers, like Nostradamas, predicted global chaos in the year 2012.So,if you want the most complex examination of the life and prophesies of Nostradamas, then you must read this book first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised by detail, February 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Knowing very little about Nostradamus, i decided to get some books on him, but didn't want to spend a fortune. This book is so detailed about his life, all of his writings it leaves very little unturned. I'm glad i picked this book to learn about this historic person.

4.0 out of 5 stars BEST Nostradamus book I've come across!, April 24, 1997
By A Customer
This book has several things most others don't. First an excellent explanation of how Nostradamus wrote his quatrain's and how they ended up in the order they are in. WITHOUT THIS INFO, >ANY< NOSTRADAMUS BOOK IS ESSENTIALLY WORTHLESS. Secondly, each left hand page is in French, while each right hand page is in English. Nice touch. Thirdly, it is THE ONLY BOOK I've ever seen publishing his letter to King Henry of France. This letter details IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER what major events will transpire. If for no other reason, get the book for THIS LETTER ALONE! And lastly, the book is very well laid out and you can find any Century/Quatrain in seconds
