5.0 out of 5 stars A rare find
I picked up a copy of this book on my recent trip to Greece. In my time away, I was hoping to acquaint myself with the various works of the famous prophets. When I found this book, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had the complete translation of Garencieres. His original book is quite rare and considered to be an antique. I almost managed to acquire a copy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth a thought
Even if Nostradamus was right 10% of the time, and he was right more often than that, it'd be worth a minute in thought. Reading about him is not a waste of time, I'd recommend any bright mind to read this book, but also to exercise reason while doing so.
I'd be easier to read a more simplified version if you just wanna get a basic story of Nostradamus, but if you...

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare find, January 12, 2002

This review is from: Nostradamus, His Works and Prophecies (Paperback)
I picked up a copy of this book on my recent trip to Greece. In my time away, I was hoping to acquaint myself with the various works of the famous prophets. When I found this book, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had the complete translation of Garencieres. His original book is quite rare and considered to be an antique. I almost managed to acquire a copy once, but it ended up going for over $5,000. This is a historically significant translation since it is one of the earliest modern English versions. Garencieres worked in the 1600's and couldn't slant the translation to fit modern events. It is enjoyable to compare his work to the modern "masters" of interpretation.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Great, July 9, 2002
By
This review is from: Nostradamus, His Works and Prophecies (Paperback)
I have read many books by Nostradamus. I have read better, but this is definitley not bad. I would like to write a message to the person from England, who says that any of Nostradamus' prophecies can be twisted and turned into many ways.......WRONG. "A mushroom shaped explosion" is in one of his quatrains, is that vogue? its the exact shape of a nuclear weapons Smoke! Nostradamus even told how many years Hitler would rule! Nostradamus saw a young boy in the streets, got off his carraige and got on his knee's and praised the boy. Saying "Your holiness!" Years later, that boy became Pope! Nostradamus also cured 3 cities that were infected with the Bubonic Plague, and to give him no credit and say he is nothing? His wife and 2 kids were killed! yet he STILL helped the communities. He has predicted many deaths, even his own, he told when and where he was coming back from. Everyone said he was of the devil, many people hated him in his time, yet he was still nice. I think he did Sorcery, but not Satanic Sorcery. he cured people with herbs and that is used in sorcery, but he was very religeous.(christain) he saved SO many lives, he is very important.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.., January 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nostradamus, His Works and Prophecies (Paperback)
I bought this book for my grandfather because he is fascinated with Nostradamus. The only problem is you can't make sense of the prophecies! There's the original language he wrote them in and a literal translation. There's no interpretation to help you understand what the prophecies mean. I wish I would have known the prophecies were not explained and easy to understand. You'd have to be a historian to understand them.

1.0 out of 5 stars PURE NONSENSE!, April 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Nostradamus, His Works and Prophecies (Paperback)
This book is the typical fair for those who have a tabloid mentality and are superstitious, rather than objective. Nostradamus' writings are so completely vague that they can be readily interpreted any way one wishes. This is why they are constantly rehashed and reinterpreted to be repackaged and resold to every superficial sap with a buck to waste.
