4.0 out of 5 stars Lemesurier uncovers Nostradamus' method in "Final Reckoning, May 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Nostradamus: final reckoning (Paperback)
"Nostradamus: the Final Reckoning" is Peter Lemesuier's most recent effort to shine the light of sensibility upon the many interpretations of Nostradamus. It follows his previous effort "Nostradamus: The Next Fifty Years", and will followed by his "Nostradamus Encyclopedia", hopefully in the near future. You may remember Peter Lemesurier as the writer of "The Great Pyramid Decoded", an extraordinary volume that examined how the Great Pyramid in Egypt may in fact contain the hidden code to our future within its very design. No doubt the similarity of the pyramid's predictions of our near future to that of Nostradamus and others convinced him to explore the true meaning of Nostradamus' legacy. In his first Nostradamus book, Peter decided to take a rather unorthodox approach to interpretation. Instead of converting the convoluted original verses into even more convoluted English, he translated the "poetry" of the originals into new English verses, keeping the flavor and the intent of the originals. The result for English readers is that we can for the first time begin to understand the true method behind Nostradamus' prophecies. Like the better interpreters that proceeded him, Peter linked key elements together from diverse quatrains and sixains, and in the process began to put together the pieces of the puzzle. In his new book Peter continues to interpret the intent of the originals as opposed to translating them, but he has made one very important new discovery. In fact, having read well over a dozen books about Nostradamus and his prophecies, I would have to say that this may indeed be the most important discovery of any author to date. How was Peter able to do what no one else had before him? Quite simply, he read what he man said in his writings, and took him for his word. Why it should have taken so long for someone to do so I cannot say, because the answer was there plain as daylight. In all fairness, other writers had seen this clue and had recognized it, but none of them had made the proper connection until now. Peter's discovery made it possible to date a good number of the sixains and quatrains and in the process it would appear that 1997 is a key year. In fact so many of the writings of Nostradamus make note of this and the next few years that one must come to believe that some extraordinary events will be taking place shortly. No, I'm not going to reveal Peter's discovery here. For that you will have to buy the book. Peter has included a handy date summary calendar for each section of the book, which lists prophecies and includes comparisons of the predictions made by Edgar Cayce, Jean Dixon, Mario de Sabato, the Great Pyramid and Arthur C. Clarke, in addition to Nostradamus. Like the de Fontbrune efforts of the early eighties, there are battlefield maps and detailed explanations of each event that is to come. Peter also shows a little of his personal spiritual politics in "The Final Reckoning". He seems intent on explaining to what is (one would suspect) a largely New Age readership how their beliefs in peace and non-violence could be so easily crushed under foot. He notes that the Western modern world has become wealthy at the expense of the largely ignored and poorer third world nations. In fact, he seems to be implying that a universal conflagration of hostilities is not only prophesied, but is almost inevitable given the present state of things. So what is to come? We will eventually find out as this present moment transforms itself into the shadowy presence we call the future, perhaps the very near future. No doubt it will surprise us over and over again. If you are looking for a preview of events to come, and this has lead you to the writings of Nostradamus, you may want to pick up a copy of the "Nostradamus: The Final Reckoning". I can't think of a better place to start.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty superficial, July 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Nostradamus: final reckoning (Paperback)
This book delivers a somewhat well ordered but superficial account of the writings of Nostradamus, and others (The Great Pyramid, St. Malachy, Jean Dixon, and others) The author attempts to draw infererences from these sources, that are not well founded, and lack sufficient supporting documentatin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something to share---I was scared, June 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Nostradamus: final reckoning (Paperback)
I and several friends read it 8 years ago. It is a chinese version (I am not sure whether it was a translation from the above selling version).

In that time we really did not take it seriously. One thing we joked about was one prophecy:

It said a strong empire will disintegrate in its 73 years. The book translates this prophecy as

'the empire is Soviet Union ant it will disintegrate in 1991 (1918+73). The book itself was actually published in late 80's and the explanation to this prophecy should be even earlier. In that time, there was really not any sign of the collapse of a strong Soviet Union.

When we read the book, we joked that we would wait and see what would happen to Soviet Union in the coming year and then would decide whether the Prophecies were believable.

We were really joking then, since no one really took this kind of book seriously. However, you all knew what happened to Soviet Union in 1991!!!!!!

It was really amazing the book was right on this!!!!

In the chinese version, it did predict a big disaster to human kinds in 2000 (or 1999). I am scared. I will buy one to see what is predicted in the English version.
