Secondary romance was more believable,
By Georgia Peach (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Not Another New Year's (Mass Market Paperback)
The secondary romance was far more compelling to me than the main couple's. I don't want to give anything away about the characters because their backstories shaped them, but both, Tanner and Hannah, came off as slightly neurotic. Whereas with the other two, you could tell this couple needed each other. I didn't get that impression with Tanner and Hannah. I could see them being a fling, something that healed the past hurts, allowing them to move on to other partners. But I didn't get the sense they would die without the other being in their lives. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book.

Loved It,

I found the story line to be light hearted in spite of the "suspense." I loved the characters, going back to the same little town. The secondary romance was nicley done and a very nice addition to the main romance with Hannah and Tanner.
The story flowed together nicley and kept you hanging in there. I really enjoyed this book and have recommended it already.

Another Great Book,
By IndigoRaiyne (Aiken, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Not Another New Year's (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed this book immensely. Christie Ridgway is fast becoming one of my "must read" authors. So far, I haven't read a book by her that was terrible.
Not Another New Years is a sequel to Must Love Mistletoe, which is also a great book. It is the story of Tanner Hart and Hannah Davis and Troy Hart and Desiree. It is well written, fast paced and witty. The characters were strong and made you care about them. I liked that Troy and Tanner shared the story. It was like having two books in one. I liked that Hannah really grew as the book progressed. I also enjoyed Desiree more than I thought I would and was glad that her story was told as she intrigued me in Mistletoe. I do wish that her relationship with Finn had somehow been resolved. I didn't understand Hannah's obsession with finding Caroline and it almost seemed like an afterthought. Their interaction was very limited and I didn't see Caroline as necessary for Hannah to come to terms with her relationship with Duncan. I would have liked it better if Hannah had sought her out for friendship. I also wasn't overly fond of the ending. I felt like it just stopped. I would have liked to see an epilogue just to wrap things up a little more. Overall, this was an excellent book and I highly recommend it.

Great fun romance,

This review is from: Not Another New Year's (Mass Market Paperback)
Dejected at having lost her fiance to another woman, small town schoolteacher Hannah Davis travels to San Diego for a holiday and to check out the competition. When her luggage and purse is stolen, she walks into a Coronado bar and finds a stranger nursing a beer. Hannah has spent most of her life doing what is expected of her, even going so far as to never learn to drive since her elder sister died in a car accident. Wanting desperately to shed her good girl image (and not having money for a hotel room), she uses a fake name and asks him to take her to bed. The next morning, she awakes to find a shrieking female named Desiree and realizes that this man is taken. What she doesn't realize is that he's the tour guide her uncle arranged to show her the sites.
Tanner Hart just wanted to cure an eleven month dry spell, never expecting the woman he brought home (who then passed out) is the same woman he promised Geoff he would protect from predatory men like him. But Hannah has gotten under his skin, and the more the disgraced secret service agent is around her, the more he realizes how complex she is and the more he wants her. Complicating matters is Desiree, the woman who caused his downfall in a deadly kidnapping attempt overseas. But she appears to have her eyes on another Hart... With Ridgway's latest, readers get two romances for the price of one. Her writing is crisp, as is the dialogue. And of course there are Ridgway's trademark sizzling love scenes. She also tosses in some unexpected twists to make the story not so predictable. Tanner's brother Troy was a great stand out character - ex-Marine and closet health nut/vegetarian. One qualm I had was Hannah's reaction to seeing the ocean in San Diego/Coronado. Hello? She is from Northern California not Kansas; the ocean is only an hour or so away from even the most interior cities.

I really enjoyed this book. And I don't normally read. Maybe because I could relate to the heroine, she's a teacher and so am I. The story takes place near San Diego and I used to live there, so the author was very true to the descriptions of the area. She became alot more gutsy as the book went on, and I became more engrossed in the plot. There was a side story that was a little hard to keep up with. For the most part I would recommend this book and I plan on getting more from this author.

Not Another New Year's by Christie Ridgway is fun modern romance. Hannah Davis had a terrible years so when she picks up a good-looking guy on new years eve who ends up being Ex-Secret Service Agent Tanner Hart who asked to protect her (by her uncle) while Hannah's on vacation. I don't want to give to much up because it has some great twist and turns. This book has two romances, mystery and adventure. Take a chance -- off to find more by this author .

Weak 3 stars. Ok for contemporary romance, but nothing special or different. Light on plot, character, and dialogue.,

STORY BRIEF:The main romance: Hannah is a sweet second grade teacher. Her parents and relatives are protective, helpful, and drive her wherever she needs to go. She was engaged for several years to Duncan who dumped her a few months ago. Now she is on a ten day vacation in Coronado. Her Uncle Geoff works for the secret service. He asks one of his former agents Tanner to watch over her for safety. Tanner lives in Coronado. Geoff tells Hannah that Tanner is her tour guide and to go to him if she has any problems. Hannah is naïve, klutzy, and wants to please everyone. She is careless in the airport resulting in theft of her purse and her luggage. Dez offers to let Hannah stay with her. Then Dez loans Hannah sexy clothes and lingerie to wear - things Hannah would never have owned. The secondary romance: Desiree (Dez) is the daughter of a wealthy Middle Eastern prince and a famous American model. The father has no interest in Dez, and her mother neglects her, but they provide her with plenty of money. Eleven months ago, Dez met Tanner while he was providing security for her father. She grabbed Tanner and kissed him in front of the paparazzi. The picture was in the tabloids. Tanner lost his job because his face was too well known which hurt his ability to stay in the background. Geoff offers to give him back his job if he takes good care of Hannah. Dez is attracted to Tanner's brother Troy. Troy is a former marine who owns a bar. Troy fights his attraction to Dez. REVIEWER'S OPINION: Not much plot or character development. Nothing special about dialogue. Think of this as an ice cream sundae. It's a light, fluffy read. Lots of time is spent describing the characters' lusty feelings and desires for the other. This is going on with all four characters, Hannah, Tanner, Dez, and Troy. These ponderings almost have a feeling of interrupting the story, especially with Tanner. Almost all of his thoughts are about wanting sex with Hannah. I enjoyed the Dez/Troy story more than the Hannah/Tanner story. Two subplots help to fill the book. 1. A bad guy is after Dez for reasons concerning her wealthy father. 2. Hannah wants to find and meet Caroline, the woman who stole her fiancé. Caroline lives in Coronado. The sex scenes were ok, kind of average. But there was one that I notably liked, the last one with Tanner. Previous sex scenes had Tanner being gentle and taking a lot of time and effort to please Hannah. The last one has him approach her saying "Take off your clothes, Hannah. I need you right now. I have to have you." His alpha comments and desire were an aphrodisiac to her. DATA: Story length: 353 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: 6. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 36. Setting: current day Coronado Island and San Diego, California. Copyright: 2007. Genre: contemporary romance.

Oh My Books! Review,
By Maria Guajardo "Gaby" (Venezuela) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Not Another New Year's (Kindle Edition)
Not Another New Year's is the second book of the Holidays series by Christie Ridgway and since I loved Must Love Mistletoe, I had to read this one too, I love to know more about the other characters from a story, so I was happy to read about Tanner, Finn's friend. He's also having a difficult time, feeling guilty for the death of a work partner and also because of the loss of his job. So when it's New Year's eve, he isn't exactly happy. Hannah is trying to find adventure in California. She's tired of being the dumped schoolteacher, always pleasing her family. So she goes to Coronado, and when she's robbed, her only choice is to find Tanner Hart, her tour guide, and ask for his help. After a few mojitos, she's feeling super happy and ready to forget about her ex-fiancée and spend the night with the hot blonde guy at the bar, without really knowing that both of them where going to be very surprised the next morning. Personally, I loved this book. I think I even liked it more than the first. Hannah and Tanner were great characters, interesting enough for me to keep reading until the end. Both of them were hurt, and weren't really excited for this new year or life at all. Their relationship was sweet but very hot. They helped each other to discover themselves, and I was happy to see both of them growing and changing for better. I was very excited to discover there was a secondary romance in this book, between Tanner's brother, Troy and Desiree. Both of them couldn't have been more different from each other, and I was following their story from the first book. I loved their romance because they have known themselves from more than a year, and they hated each other at first, so it was interesting to see how they let their walls down. Overall, it's a very enjoyable chick lit book full of romance and a couple of hot scenes. The perfect book for those times you feel like reading something light, fun and heartwarming!

Just the right mixture of romance, humor, quirky characters, and action. I loved the interaction of all the characters with each other. Over all it was just a great, light, quick, funny read.
