5.0 out of 5 stars She's STILL got it!, August 17, 2002
This review is from: Not for Church Folk (Audio CD)
Like the previous reviewer, I discovered Ms. Jackson's work at 17 as well. 23 years later, this hardcore fan had to replace all the vinyl recordings on CD simply because the grooves on the records were worn out!

This latest outing has Millie on her own label after years of dealing with nonsense from other labels. She has some radio friendly tracks as well as the more explicit work that we have all come to know her for.

There isn't a heck of a lot of "raps" that the we are used to, as in some of her earlier work, however she lyrically pulls no punches with these tracks, that one can only imagine how she will pull them off "live" onstage!

*In My Life* actually has a bit of a goth/trip hop tone to it, while Butt-a-cize has a more decidedly dance floor groove.

In addition to great music about growing older (I'm Fifty!) to enjoying being alone (Leave Me Alone), Millie remains steadfast with common sense that provides sanity in an insane world. This is most evident in the closing track (Caught In A Trap) which discusses how we are living too large and simply keeping ourselves down at heal because of the trappings of the world.

Many folks will relate with the breakup song (Trying To Get You Back) which declares the need to send the bad lover back from where they came from.

When it comes to quality entertainment about relationships, any Millie Jackson purchase is money that remains well spent. Listening to her can save one years of therepy on a psychiatrists couch because she manages to get to the bone of the matter and doesn't sugar coat it for anyone.

I cannot recommend her work highly enough and encourage all those sitting on the fence to give this brilliant performer a shot on your CD player. You might not ever take the CD out!

5.0 out of 5 stars DEFINEITLY NOT FOR CHURCH FOLK !!!!!, May 16, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Not for Church Folk (Audio CD)
Millie Jackson is completely enjoyable on this set.She does her classic soul style on tracks like "LEAVE ME ALONE" AND "WATER,WATER". On"IN MY LIFE" guest star Da Brat makes it hot. My favourite tracks : "BUTT-A-CISE"AND "NIGHT DANCE" would make good singles. Those are just as good if not better than some of the songs on the radio right now. I have grown to love Ms. Jackson as an music artist. Keep up the good work Millie. SIGNED : 17 year old music fan.

I've been a fan of Miss Jackson since the early 70's. Of late some of her recordings have been rather bland. However she's come back with a great black sound and a theme - she's 50 (well maybe a bit more!).

She's as up front as ever and her launguage is as salty as ever but the theme of middle age is one she comments on with wisdom and wit.

Best cuts are Butt a Cize, In my life, She's a Ho, OMF and I'm 50! Some of her comments are just plain funny and when she's at her most outrageous she's at her peak and her most insightful. I thoroughly recommend this to all soul fans.
