Book Description

April 1, 2003 1897766726 978-1897766729
Arguing that globalization has created a disparity of wealth among nations, this treatise offers a new vision of international collaboration in which the principles of market forces can be harnessed to create a just society. The modern obsession with money is deconstructed to reveal that the contributions of individuals and the natural world are undervalued. A system of "natural capital accounting" is offered as a new measurement in which the basis of economic decision-making is shifted from money to science and scientific realities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nature's constraints, November 11, 2002
This review is from: Not by Money Alone: Economics as Nature Intended (Paperback)
This is an excellent book which exposes the limitations of money as the sole way of ordering economic affairs. Very readable and thought provoking, it details the use of energy as the way forward in understanding the merit of different courses of action facing societies. It makes a compelling argument for the changes which will be necessary if the world is to prosper in the future and introduces the concept of "suoming" in which countries would have the ability to buy and sell the rights to use energy. Anyone interested in the great issues facing our planet should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Important Book, June 29, 2005
By
This review is from: Not by Money Alone: Economics as Nature Intended (Paperback)
I cannot believe more people with an interest in the way our affairs are conducted, particularly those who are concerned about the implications of global warming, oil, gas and water
depletion, not to mention the perilous state of our fiat money systems and the ever-growing debt mountain, have not discovered this book.

The authors' thinking and their presentation of those thoughts is eminently clear and readable (even to someone with no education in either economics or science like myself).

The solutions they propose are simple and pragmatic - excitingly so. It is a hopeful and inspiring book - and I never thought I would find myself saying that about an Economics book!

It is a quick easy read. Every politician, and the economists who advise them should read it, and examine their thoughts.

For anyone interested in clearer thinking about the environment and economics, Slesser and King, have come up with an answer and simple methods to apply that answer. I urge you to read it, and put your thoughts here.
