Hilarious, pathetic and just plain perverted,
This review is from: Not Proud: A Smorgasbord of Shame (Paperback)
I am proud to say I've been visiting notproud.com since it came out in 2000, and was pretty excited about getting this new collection. I actually have their original book from 2003 which was only available online (I think..) and appears sold out. There are repeated confessions from the earlier one (including the one that explains the green skittle on the front, hehe), but there are a lot of great new ones that would take you a million years to find on the actual site.
There's a lot of other online confession sites out there now, but IMO there's always been something about the starkness of notproud.com where there are no casino ads and bloggy chatter that just gets the juiciest, most honest confessions out of people. It's like a sacred space, where people admit unholy things. Anyway, what can I say - i'm a fan! Oh yeah, part of the fun for me is going through the book to see if one of my own online confessions made it in. No luck so far, but I like to think maybe I'll be naughty enough next time!

Reading secrets...,
This review is from: Not Proud: A Smorgasbord of Shame (Paperback)
I really enjoyed reading this book. I suppose the voyeur in me liked reading about the secrets of others. It made me want to make a list of things I could contribute to a second edition. I'm relieved to have not had much material to share.

Great fun,

It goes from damn funny to damn tragic in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed this collection of anonymous confessions. It's an interesting snapshot of our times, our morals and our behaviors. It made me think and giggle at the same time, what could be better?

What a great read, thier's not many books that you go to work and talk about it like It's a great movie you just saw or join everybody at the water cooler and talk about it like it was a episode of friends.Pure fun.

Move over Gideon,
This review is from: Not Proud: A Smorgasbord of Shame (Paperback)
The best life instructional book I've ever read. A primer for anyone who wants to 'live' in the world. A must for everyone's night-table.

Careful about that,
This review is from: Not Proud: A Smorgasbord of Shame (Paperback)
I post stuff at Not Proud and I don't like being called, "pathetic" as the editorial description here says. There's a fine line between opening a space for people to say what they feel and feeding off them in a a voyeuristic, vampirelike manner.
Every person reading Not Proud, could just as easily be on the other end of the microscope. I've always been of two minds about the creators of Not Proud and their intentions. Is it it a sacred space to tell truths, or something that generates porn and sources of amusement? I don't know, really. Due to the site's neutral and simple design, it facilitates confessions, and if the confessor doesn't have cause to believe that they will be ridiculed, confession is healing. Just remember the people whose confessions you read can read this, and the book and anything else to do with this Not Proud. You could be one of them, if you had the courage to say what you really feel.
