Typical treatment of a fun concept,

This review is from: Not Quite Human #01: Batteries Not Included (Paperback)
When I was a kid, I really enjoyed this series, which centers around an android that poses as a human boy named CHIP.The idea of a machine so sophisticated that it can fake humanity is a powerful one. CHIP is very capable in some ways, but hopelessly inept in others. His superhuman strength and speed give him unlimited potential, but his susceptibility to simple mechanical problems underscore his vulnerability. Sadly, when I look at the book now, I see more wasted potential than good reading. The writing, plot, and characters have far more in common with a dumbed-down Disney tv series than such a great concept deserves. Any fan of science fiction will see the germ of a good story here. But since it doesn't live up to that potential, I can't recommend it. |
