I like the music, but I also admire their values and guts,

I intend to buy the album of this same name when it comes out. I'm not a huge country fan, but I like to dabble in it. And I've always liked the Dixie Chicks sound. But now I have an even better reason to buy it. These gals have been put through the ringer for speaking their mind. Just because they are against the war in Iraq, they've been trashed by many of their so-called fans, the country radio stations and the press -- for three years!! This single says, "Hey, if you're waiting for us to apologize, you can forget it. We're not going to back down from our beliefs." 60-Minutes wondered if they're committing musical suicide. Well, I'll step in to do my little part of CPR! You go, girls!!!

There hasn't been a whole lot going on with country music recently. Nevertheless, with what has been going on with The Dixie Chicks within the past few years was just difficult. From the fallout of their President Bush bashing, to many people not being interested in their music with a public steamrolling of their music, Natalie Maines and company went through a difficult passage of time. Nevertheless, their latest single Not Ready To Make Nice from the #1 album Taking The Long Way Home, is a delightful song that shows their impressions of what happened to them from the past. The song is one of the best songs out there on the radio right now, and it is just delightful. Their feeling for the song sounds better than most of the tracks from the beginning of the groups' longtime career. I really like this song a whole lot.Song: B+

I will definitely buy this. We are supposed to have freedom of speech but when someone speaks what they think they are crucified for it.Shame on the right wingers who want to stifle everyone who doesn't agree with them. I had never bought their music but I will now. We should all have the courage to speak out for what we believe.

Rap goes country,

When you get down to it, there's nothing philosophically different between the most self-referencing rap songs from Eminem, 50 Cent and others and the latest from the Dixie Chicks.I mean this as a compliment. What the beats from those musicians have in common is an extraordinary sense of place, voice and storytelling paired with musically simple-but-sophisticated melodies. Same goes for "I'm Not Ready To Make Nice." It's "I'm Slim Shady" for the fiddle & steel guitar crowd. Excellent song, whether you agree with the politics behind it or not. All I ever ask from a performer is a well-told story with great vocal and musical performances. That's what you have here.

This is a really good song.I know a good song when I hear it. And this is a good song. I know it's a good song because I heard it. And I heard it because it's a good song. Here's an interview from Rocking Bones Magazine. Interviewer: I'm sitting here with the lovely ladies of Dixie Chicks. We're talking about their new album and their first single, Not Ready To Make Nice. Hello ladies. Natalie Maines: Buck Fush. Emily Erwin: Well, it's not that I don't agree with Natalie. I do. I just know there will be trouble. I feel all warm and tingly from my head to my feet Martie Seidel: Hey. Interviewer: What is the theme of your new album? Natalie: Buck Fush. Emily: Well, it's not that I don't agree with Natalie. I do. I just know there will be trouble. I feel all warm and tingly from my head to my feet. Martie: We have been through a lot. We have weathered a great storm. It takes courage to go through what we did and still be able to make music this good. Interviewer: What are you trying to say with your first single? Natalie: Buck Fush. Emily: Well, it's not that I don't agree with Natalie. I do. I just know there will be trouble. I feel all warm and tingly from my head to my feet. Martie: The song is basically saying we're martyrs. And we definitely are. How many people can get their cds ran over by tractors and come back with music this good? It takes great courage. Interviewer: Now you are well on your way to becoming the most successful girl group of all time. That means being more popular than TLC and even The Supremes. How do you feel about that? Natalie: Buck Fush. Emily: Well, it's not that I don't agree with Natalie. I do. I just know there will be trouble. I feel all warm and tingly from my head to my feet. Martie: I have to be honest. We all know that we're only marginally talented. We sing trite lyrics, but we have a swagger and an attitude. This works to make us really popular. Not to mention our music is really really good. But we know that we're not as good as the girl groups you just named. But we're white and we attack presidents. These 2 things work tremendously well to get us press and attention and accolades we don't deserve. I had to be honest. Interviewer: Wow. That is honest! How do you think your fans will feel about those comments? Natalie: Buck Fush. Emily: Well, it's not that I don't agree with Natalie. I do. I just know there will be trouble. I feel all warm and tingly from my head to my feet. Martie: Which ones? Interviewer: What do you mean? Martie: Which fans are you referring to: the real ones or the other ones? Interviewer: How do you distinguish? Martie: Well, the real ones are the cool ones who will stick with us to the end and won't ever put us in a cd changer with Toby and Reba. The other ones are those redneck fans in the red states who like to eat chitlins and raccoon. Interviewer: Couldn't one argue that those "other" fans are the ones who made you big in the first place? Martie: It doesn't matter. We're famous and rich now. After becoming so famous and rich, we have moved to L.A. and New York and made friends with smart, intellectual, tolerant people who think like us. Natalie has an actor husband; and we love our new lives as New Yorkers and Los Angeles...um whatever the word is for people who live in Los Angeles. There are enough cool tolerant people in NY and L.A. to support us. We don't need Nashville or Little Rock anymore. We don't even need Fort Worth. Interviewer: Wow. Would you like to close the interview with some thoughts? Natalie: Buck Fush. Emily: Well, it's not that I don't agree with Natalie. I do. I just know there will be trouble. I feel all warm and tingly from my head to my feet. Martie: I'd just like to say that this record will be a new beginning for us. We're not honkeytonk girls anymore. We're sophisticated, intellectual women who live and associate with cool people who get it and realize that we're courageous martyrs and that our music is really really good even though we realize it's not the quality of our music that has our faces plastered everywhere. If they can get all of that I just said, then they are real fans indeed. |
