Book Description

April 22, 2010
Middle-aged single mother and entertainment publicist Suzanne Portnoy leads a double life. Monday to Friday, she's a professional executive devoted to her two adolescent boys. But on weekends she spends her kid-free hours having sex, with a different man—or men—each time. Picking up where The Butcher, the Baker, the Candlestick Maker left off, this memoir finds Suzanne both confronting the consequences and enjoying the fruits of her notoriety as the bestselling author of an erotic memoir. From a coked-up rock star to an uptight millionaire to a hunky stripper, Suzanne attracts plenty of men wherever she goes, particularly once they learn her identity. But just when Suzanne grows reconciled to the possibility of never settling down, she meets a man who wants to be more than one of her "friends." While debating whether to unload her portfolio of men for the potential one true lover, this most unconventional woman ponders the most conventional question: has she found the fabled Mr. Right or will he prove to be just another in a long string of Mr. Wrongs?

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

An American living and working in London, pseudonymous author Portnoy is a hard-working single mom whose hobby is sex-usually with strangers. Here, she follows up her 2006 sexalogue The Butcher, the Baker, the Candlestick Maker: An Erotic Memoir with more of the same: adventurous romps rendered in graphic detail. Picking up where she last left off, Portnoy finds success with her memoir and a new coterie of men with whom to mingle, but still has to deal with a full time job as a publicist and two teenage sons. In all arenas, Portnoy is anything but subtle; even the chapter titles are explicit: Three is Not a Crowd, Pleasure and Pain, The Gang Bang. Occasional diversions are a mixed bag; Portnoy includes the steamiest 6 weeks of abstinence readers could hope for, but she treats the potentially telling loss of a longtime friend, for better or worse, with her typical fast-paced candor. Though they might want it wrapped in a brown paper wrapper, daring readers and fans of erotic writing will be happy they picked up this sizzling tell-all.

This review is from: The Not So Invisible Woman (Paperback)
I read a ton of erotica but for some reason haven't picked up a lot of erotica memoirs for whatever reason. After reading Suzanne Portnoy's second book, The Not So Invisible Woman, I'm definitely going to make an effort to read more.

There's plenty of hot sex packed into this biography, but the greatest thing in my opinion is what you'll learn as you join Portnoy on her personal sexual journey. She's detailed as she tells you of sucking off a horse-hung stripper before he performs, but what really holds your attention is her honest account of this and other sexual adventures.

First you should know that Portnoy probably has a lot more in common with your mom than you would initially expect. She's closing in on menopause and is before anything else, a mother. After ten years of marriage, she found herself suddenly single and that's when her personal sexual revolution began. She's unabashed about her experiences and doesn't seem to mind sharing - lucky for us!

I've read other reviews of Portnoy's work and some of them can be a bit harsh. Accusing her of a multitude of offenses, but mostly I think people just have a hard time accepting that a woman could really be happy without settling down. Portnoy discusses how she'd be happy to find a partner, but that she surely doesn't need one and I commend her for that.

Overall, this is a fun read that details the life of one honest, adventurous woman. While her lifestyle doesn't agree with mine, does not mean there's anything wrong with it. I hope everyone seeks out sexual fulfillment with half of the passion she does.
