5.0 out of 5 stars Poignant Problem-Solution for Many of Today's Crises
The best video my wife and I have seen lately is "Not In This Town." It is based on a true story, and is filled with heroic, inspiring moments.

The setting is Billings Montana within the past decade. An Arian Nations group has set up camp and is intent on wreaking havoc against the targets of their hatred. The main heroin of the show is a lady who had converted to...

3.0 out of 5 stars There's something to be said for understatement
A cardboard cut-out neo-Nazi terrorizes an otherwise happy Jewish family in Montana. Very much made-for-television fare. An important message, yes, but a bit heavy-handed. Comic book treatment of a complex topic. Would have liked the bad guys to appear more pathetic than evil, but evil is the name of the game in this simplistic tale of religious and racial persecution...

The best video my wife and I have seen lately is "Not In This Town." It is based on a true story, and is filled with heroic, inspiring moments.

The setting is Billings Montana within the past decade. An Arian Nations group has set up camp and is intent on wreaking havoc against the targets of their hatred. The main heroin of the show is a lady who had converted to Judaism from Protestantism. The question is, should they just lie low as the atrocities become more poignant, to keep from becoming a personal target, or do they stand up against the senseless and mean violence?

You have to see the show. It reverberates throughout many of the crises we see on the planet right now, including those in the Middle East.

Based on a true story. Don't get me wrong, it's still worth watching - but on television.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, May 5, 2000

Not in this Town is a work of pure art. Its a must have at any price. I watched it and it will bring tears to your eyes. The actors and actresses do an incredible job. I am planning to use it in my up coming club, FWWRD "For a World Without Racism and Discrimination". I have seen no movie to match it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit on the heavy-handed side, January 25, 2000
This review is from: Not in This Town [VHS] (VHS Tape)
TV-movie treatment of hate crime in Montana. A multi-cultural community is harassed by neo-Nazis. Cartoon cut-out bad guys go up against generally likable innocents such as the Jewish family that figures centrally in the story. A bit simplistic, but well-meaning. Just about every minority that's been persecuted in the last century - whether in the U.S. or abroad - has been squeezed into this drama. I'd wait for it to appear on TV again - or rent it. Not worth the considerable price.
