5.0 out of 5 stars Warm, human, real -- all that is best about Italian film!!!, April 29, 2003
This review is from: Not of This World (DVD)
Had I known beforehand that this was a film about a nun who finds a baby in a park, I probably would have avoided it like the plague. Yet, from this premise that promises only the worst kind of sentimentality comes the best film I've seen in years. There is sentiment, to be sure, but it is earned -- superbly so -- by the honesty and intelligence of the performances, script and direction.

This film lets us spend time with ordinary, unforgettable people facing the simple, terrible problems of everyday life, first alone, and then together. It shows us that even those who think they are "not of this world" are bound to it by the humanity we share. It will make you smile in recognition and, I dare say, sniffle a bit as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Realistic View of Nuns, July 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Not of This World (DVD)
Like _The Brides of Christ_, this film gives a beautifully realistic portrayal of nuns in times of changee and crisis. The story of a middle-aged nun, and the heartache she goes through as she tries to decide when, upon finding a child, whether she has truly made the decision to forsake all earthly things in joining the convent. Without being sentimental or preachy, this film considered some of the things a man or woman who enters the church has given up, and what he/she gains by it also.

5.0 out of 5 stars suprisingly great, May 7, 2003
This review is from: Not of This World (DVD)
This is one of those films that you watch because someone else wants to see it, but you're not sure you're going to like it. Well I ended up loving this story. This is an exceptionally well-made film that is a remarkable meditation on the nature of human loneliness and love. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sci-fi horror for being a made-for-tv flick!, December 17, 2009
This review is from: Not of This World [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As a little kid I had the pleasure of watching 'Not of this World', a made-for-tv horror flick that aired on CBS in 1991. I'll keep it short and sweet in explaining what this little horror flick is about.

Story takes place in a small mid-western town overcome by alien life form! You see, the towns folk have just witnessed a meteor shower. Just so happens that one of these meteors have landed in their neck-of-the-woods, and its no ordinary rock, of course. It doesn't take long for this nasty creature to stir up trouble after it hatches out of its rock-like egg! Nothing is safe from this nasty being! Soon live stock, people, and the occasional pet start dying off while the towns' sheriff (A. Martinez), along with old doc (Pat Hingle), are puzzled as to what caused their deaths! All of the victims either look like they've all been severely burned or blown up!!! Every time the alien parasite feeds, it gets bigger and bigger! Meanwhile, the doctor's daughter (Lisa Hartman), has designed the towns' new power plant that will soon be ready for business. It isn't till later on that the sheriff, doc, and his daughter find out how to kill this outer-space parasite that feeds off of anything that possesses electrical current. Luckily, they've come up with a plan by using the new power plant that just might be able to kill the vicious creature and save their lives!

Well it's been almost 20 years since I watched this and I was only 9 at the time, I couldn't remember its title until last week! It's a good thing because it was driving me nuts for the past five years on trying to remember what the title of this flick is that's got me into horror movies in the first place! Besides getting into it from the help of my Dad haha. I'm wondering if a small, little flick like this would ever hit dvd; I doubt it haha. I've already received my dvdr copy in the mail today! Took it out of the packaged, slapped it in the dvd player, and a HUGE grin stayed on my face the whole time I sat on the lay-z-boy watching my movie! I cannot believe at age 9 that a little, cheesy horror flick like this had so much of an impact for me to still want to seek it out haha. Oh, the flick, considering that its made-for-tv, is still awesome to this day! Enjoy it for what it is!
