Book Description

If you get a second chance... Do you take a different path?

"There are all kinds of ways for a relationship to be tested, even broken, irrevocably; it’s the endings that we’re unprepared for. My life has become a roller coaster ride mixed with equal amounts of pure joy and exposed fear; and, sometimes, this unfathomable incredulity. This arrives in spurts, like adrenalin or injected heroin; well, how I imagine injected heroin would feel. That’s when I consider that change—change, its inevitability—is coming. And, I can’t stop it." Ellie ~ Not To Us

Ellie's perfect world unravels.
A best friend's betrayal ends her marriage.
An alarming diagnosis threatens her life.
It all leads to Michael...
But, fate soon tests their perfect union.
And, begs the question: If you get a second chance, do you take a different path?

Not To Us is an insightful look into one woman’s personal journey in discovering the only way to keep her one and only wish is to trust the ones that count, beginning with herself.

Author's Note: For some fans, this is their favorite book of mine. For others? No. Just know, this is NOT a nice, light, airy romance. Not To Us deals with some heavy subject matters including: infidelity and loss and starting over. There now. You've been warned.

Editorial Reviews

"...not your average quick-read romance, but a book to be read at leisure so as to enjoy every moment...It touches you...and forces the reader to face many truths; that we have no control over our lives, no matter how hard we try. What makes the difference though, is how we deal with it." Ellen Fritz - Books4Tomorrow

"Not To Us is an astonishing story with many unexpected twists and turns. It is about one woman's wishes, discovering the strength she didn't know she possessed, forgiveness and understanding, but most importantly, learning to love herself..." Cheles Bells - A Belle's Tales

"...From the first chapter, Ms. Owen hooked me with her characters and I was rooting for them through the whole story. One twist after another, you'll think that you know what's coming won't." Elena Aitken - author of Nothing Stays In Vegas

From the Author

One husband, one boy, one girl, two cats, and the ashes of one golden retriever who was loved well. Friends and family that are a bit on the dysfunctional side tends to lend to my active imagination quite nicely, providing me with concrete examples for my fiction. I spent a long while in high tech sales and spent money like Evian water and racked up useless stock options. In pursuit of a long-held dream, I gave up the high tech corporate life and now devote myself to writing fiction full-time. I write love stories that tend to be edgy and dark and #Iwillmakeyoucry. If you're not offended by the gentle sprinkling of swear words at what are 'necessary junctures', we're bound to be best friends. This way to my world: katherineowen(dot)net. xoxo KO

2.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, BUT...... September 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The good part: I finished it in one sitting, a few hours at the most. The bad part: I will talk about it in the rest of the review. The premise of the book is a story about two couples Ellie and Robert (bobby? ugh!!) and Carrie and Michael. Michael has always been in love with Ellie. Robert and Carrie get together and needless to say this leads to trouble in paradise. Ellie is then diagnosed with breast cancer and now Michael and she are together. Umm..why? She suddenly realises she always loved him too?. This part was a bit rushed. Then Ellie gets pregnant and still battling cancer. Then a turn of fate leads Michael back to Carrie, Ellie leaves on a plane (umm abandoning her two young children ? anyone?)and meets Court Chandler (what kind of a name is that for the awesomest character in the book?). They "fall in love" BUT to make a long story short she comes back to Michael and now they have to deal with both their infidelities and cancer and birth of their twins. I felt like the author was writing 5 stories and then decided to merge them together. Let's see there is infidelity, cancer, death of children, falling in love, cancer and pregnancy? It felt like it was too much!!! I mean are you kidding me???? Anyways, it all ends well. Also, the shoddy treatment of the kids is unacceptable, what parent just shuttles their children off to someone else for pretty much the entire book? So...back to the good part? It kept me entertained for a couple of hours, I just wanted to see what more could be added to the story?

I recieved a complimentary copy of the book for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful new author!! May 11, 2011
By Melissa
Format:Kindle Edition
Katherine Owen creates a heartfelt story of a young woman stuggling with not only with her husband's infidelity but also with a tragic diagnosis of breast cancer. We watch as her main character not only learns to deal with these hardships in her life but to prevail and find happiness in the end. This story is perfect in length and Katherine does a beautiful job of helping us fall in love with all her characters.
I look forward to more novels written by Katherine Owen in the near future!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not To Us April 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
While I wanted to relate to the characters, I found it impossible to do so. The glorification and acceptance of infedelity was beyond plausible. The sheer number of obstacles set in Ellie's path bordered on rediculous. Pieces of the story were left without resolution. Ms. Owen needs to find an editor who knows how to wield the blue pencil against errant commas and awkward sentences. I am glad I did not pay full price for this seletion.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit over the top March 16, 2012
Katherine Owen is an amazing author. Her first person present tense is the most difficult to accomplish, and accomplish it she did. I loved the opening one-half, but then it became a bit over-the-top drama for me.
I am not usually a reader of romance, so don't take my word for it. This just became a unrealistic journey for a woman with cancer in my eyes. Love is great, but not more stressful than breast cancer, and then being pregnant became a small burden to this rather unlikeable woman.
I still have to say I liked it, but I didn't take it very serious.
Read it for yourself, and I hope you enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Life Unraveling January 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A well written novel, written in present tense, which I love. With Ellie's life unraveling, she becomes a true to life character. When faced with betrayal and illness, I found myself cheering Ellie on throughout. Look forward to reading Katherine Owen's other works.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved It! November 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I stayed up til the early morning hours finishing this book! I loved all the emotion and angst throughout the story. Yes, it was hard to take all that happened to Ellie in the story, but it made it all the more interesting to me. I wouldn't want to read a book about my boring life! :) My heart broke for Ellie time and again, but was a very engaging read!

More About the Author

Katherine Owen is a former high tech sales warrior and public relations queen turned novelist. Owen is the author of five Contemporary Romance and New Adult Fiction novels, three of which have reached the Top 100 on Amazon. Owen and her family live across the lake from Seattle in an old house with a fantastic view which seems to inspire more than distract the writer.

Owen's fiction can be described as somewhat dark, highly emotional, and angst-filled more often than not. There is always a happy ending but you may begin to wonder how she'll get you there. Owen's bestselling Truth In Lies series was written standalone, but readers familiar with her work recommend starting with This Much Is True FIRST.
