Review

"...not your average quick-read romance, but a book to be read at leisure so as to enjoy every moment...It touches you...and forces the reader to face many truths; that we have no control over our lives, no matter how hard we try. What makes the difference though, is how we deal with it." Ellen Fritz - Books4Tomorrow

"Not To Us is an astonishing story with many unexpected twists and turns. It is about one woman's wishes, discovering the strength she didn't know she possessed, forgiveness and understanding, but most importantly, learning to love herself..." Cheles Bells - A Belle's Tales

"...From the first chapter, Ms. Owen hooked me with her characters and I was rooting for them through the whole story. One twist after another, you'll think that you know what's coming but...you won't." Elena Aitken - author of Nothing Stays In Vegas

From the Author

One husband, one boy, one girl, two cats, and the ashes of one golden retriever who was loved well. Friends and family that are a bit on the dysfunctional side tends to lend to my active imagination quite nicely, providing me with concrete examples for my fiction. I spent a long while in high tech sales and spent money like Evian water and racked up useless stock options. In pursuit of a long-held dream, I gave up the high tech corporate life and now devote myself to writing fiction full-time. I write love stories that tend to be edgy and dark and #Iwillmakeyoucry. More About the Author

Katherine Owen is a bestselling author of new adult fiction as well as contemporary romance/women's fiction. Owen knew at the age of fourteen with a first place win in a poetry contest that she wanted to be a writer. She majored in editorial journalism and minored in English literature at the University of Washington some time ago and then promptly went into high tech lured by numerous stock options.

And yet, the dream of writing full-time just wouldn't die and in 2011, she released her debut novel and Zola Award winner, Seeing Julia soon followed up by Not To Us and When I See You. In 2013, Owen wrote and released, This Much Is True, and forayed into the hot-selling market of New Adult Fiction. The release of This Much Is True put Owen into a whole new stratosphere with her fiction with fans demanding more of her two main characters' epic love story, so Owen wrote a sequel to This Much Is True titled The Truth About Air & Water, which released in August of 2014. The last two books are part of the bestselling Truth In Lies series. Fan demand has Owen writing a third book in the series about the ballerina and the MLB baseball player, (Linc and Tally for those new to her work) so look for Owen's latest novel release of Tell Me Something True at the end of summer 2015.

The good part: I finished it in one sitting, a few hours at the most. The bad part: I will talk about it in the rest of the review. The premise of the book is a story about two couples Ellie and Robert (bobby? ugh!!) and Carrie and Michael. Michael has always been in love with Ellie. Robert and Carrie get together and needless to say this leads to trouble in paradise. Ellie is then diagnosed with breast cancer and now Michael and she are together. Umm..why? She suddenly realises she always loved him too?. This part was a bit rushed. Then Ellie gets pregnant and still battling cancer. Then a turn of fate leads Michael back to Carrie, Ellie leaves on a plane (umm abandoning her two young children ? anyone?)and meets Court Chandler (what kind of a name is that for the awesomest character in the book?). They "fall in love" BUT to make a long story short she comes back to Michael and now they have to deal with both their infidelities and cancer and birth of their twins. I felt like the author was writing 5 stories and then decided to merge them together. Let's see there is infidelity, cancer, death of children, falling in love, cancer and pregnancy? It felt like it was too much!!! I mean are you kidding me???? Anyways, it all ends well. Also, the shoddy treatment of the kids is unacceptable, what parent just shuttles their children off to someone else for pretty much the entire book? So...back to the good part? It kept me entertained for a couple of hours, I just wanted to see what more could be added to the story?

I recieved a complimentary copy of the book for an honest review.

Katherine Owen creates a heartfelt story of a young woman stuggling with not only with her husband's infidelity but also with a tragic diagnosis of breast cancer. We watch as her main character not only learns to deal with these hardships in her life but to prevail and find happiness in the end. This story is perfect in length and Katherine does a beautiful job of helping us fall in love with all her characters.
I look forward to more novels written by Katherine Owen in the near future!!

While I wanted to relate to the characters, I found it impossible to do so. The glorification and acceptance of infedelity was beyond plausible. The sheer number of obstacles set in Ellie's path bordered on rediculous. Pieces of the story were left without resolution. Ms. Owen needs to find an editor who knows how to wield the blue pencil against errant commas and awkward sentences. I am glad I did not pay full price for this seletion.

I received a free copy of this book to review and I have to say I loved it. It is the story of how a woman's life falls apart from one day to the next and how she keeps it together. Or not. It brought tears to my eyes more that once but also made me laugh a few times. The only bad thing I can say about it is there were many errors/misuses in wording and punctuation throughout the book that made me have to reread to try to figure out what is trying to be said. I'm not sure if that is because I read a kindle version or not, but it should have been proofreader better.

From the first chapter, Ms. Owen hooked me with her characters and I was rooting for them through the whole story. One twist after another, you'll think that you know what's coming but...you won't.
Ms. Owen had me cheering and crying along with the cast and I continually returned to the book to see what was going to happen next.
A lovely heartfelt story that explored some very real fears for every woman. Well done. I'm looking forward to reading more from Ms. Owen.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my review.

To be honest, the premise of this book is really far-fetched even for a fictional account. BUT...I really liked the gist of it anyway.

Ellie married Bobby. Carrie, Ellie's best friend from college, married Michael. They've been friends forever and Michael is Ellie's doctor. On the day he tells her she has cancer, she tells him...well, you soon find out.

I cried a good portion of the way through this book once I got to Chapter 14, which I did NOT SEE COMING AT ALL, MS. OWEN. If you can make your way through the first 13 chapters, I promise you that after chapter 14 they speed by and you're left wondering if you really just read all that.

{I was pleasantly surprised to see Kimberely from Seeing Julia in this book.}

I ended up hating everyone but the kids in this book. What self absorbed, shallow people. I cant believe I even finished it.

Strong characterizations and intriguing plot lines kept me riveted to this novel. The storyline of couples facing midlife crisis that tears them apart and still brings them together is very moving. While her life falls apart around her, Ellie discovers the true direction of her life. I received this book as a free copy from BookRooster. This novel is a great beach read!
