4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful tale
In "Not His Type" author Chamein Canton cleverly presents the story of Yankee star Marcus Fox and his new lady interest Catherine Chambers. I got this book and it looked really good and i was excited to read it. I spend a lot of money on books and am always reading. Maybe two pages into it she starts telling about her her mother's religion and downing it and anyone can guess what that religion was by the things she said. I paused but decided to continue reading in the hopes that it wouldn't be mentioned...

In "Not His Type" author Chamein Canton cleverly presents the story of Yankee star Marcus Fox and his new lady interest Catherine Chambers. A literary agent in NYC, Cathy is more accustomed to promoting her authors than dealing with public interest in her own life. This all changes however when the diehard Yankee fan meets Marcus. A full-figured woman who has sworn off dating and love due to romantic disappointments of the past, as well as trying to come to terms with a stifling childhood due to her staunchly religious mother, Cathy is sure that she is not Marcus's type. Marcus himself is even surprised at his interest in this quietly confident, voluptuous beauty. However, when his interest persists, he pursues her wholeheartedly.

The story of Marcus and Cathy is filled with a delightfully developed, intriguing cast of characters including family and friends, players in the baseball and publishing worlds and the intrusive media who can't seem to understand how a finely developed, highly pursued bachelor like Marcus could develop and true interest in a non-model, non-actress, everyday woman like Cathy. It was a pleasure to follow Chamein Canton's development of the story and injection of intrigue including interactions with ex-girlfriends, supportive and not-so-supportive family members. All in all it was a nice tale and look forward to reading more from this author.

I highly recommend 'Not His Type' by Chamein Canton. The characters were well developed. As were the secondary characters. It was wonderful to watch as the romance developed. There was just enough drama from Marcus' ex-girlfriend to keep the book moving. I read the book in a day, because I didn't want to put it down. My sister has already finished it as well. We both agree this was an outstanding book. It's been added to my keeper list.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Finds You When When You Least Expect It, April 26, 2009
This review is from: Not His Type (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Plus-Size (size 16), literary agent Cathy Chambers has a great life or so she would have everyone believe. The literary agency is doing great. Her twin sons are doing well at school and it is baseball season so she can watch her beloved Yankees just about every day. Love is not an issue. A past filled with disappointments in love, size and weight insecurities, and some emotional issues from her childhood have made it easy to retreat into a routine of work and Yankee games until she meets the Yankee's top player Marcus Fox. Will Cathy be able to deal with her weight issues as her relationship plays out in the media that surrounds Marcus' life

When I first picked up Not His Type I was not sure what to expect. Since I had previously listened to an interview with Chamein Canton, I hoped for a book that gave a well rounded story that showed the issues many plus size women have as they face the challenge of being plus size in a world that does not always see beyond your size. I was not disappointed. Chambers is able to covey the struggles of the plus size woman without making her plus size character the funny fat girl. She was a real woman ,with real concerns that were amplified by the public interest in her relationship.

The story is filled with an interesting mix of characters and personalities, that shape Cathy and Marcus' world and help them deal with the media blitz that surrounds their very public relationship. I enjoyed watching the romance between Cathy and Marcus develop. It was great to see these two fall in love despite the media hounding them and an ex-girlfriend with serious control issues. I was happy to see Cathy work through her personal issues to make things work with the type of man that comes only once in a life time, if ever.

My only complaint was that the book was a bit wordy. There were scenes that just seemed unnecessary. Canton paid great attention to detail in her novel. In most cases this would be a plus but for this book it was a bit overdone. Despite this I really enjoyed the story and would recommend it to both romance lovers and lovers of plus-size literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars PHAT and loving it!, December 19, 2008
This review is from: Not His Type (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Cathy Chambers is a 40-year-old literary agent who is beautiful, intelligent, a big Yankees fan, and (oh yeah) full-figured. All her life, Cathy has tried to become comfortable with her body. With an overbearing mother, a job she loves but that keeps her busy, and twin sons that just started college, Cathy didn't have much time to think about her weight. That is until she meets Yankees baseball star Marcus Fox. Marcus is a drop dead gorgeous athlete that has dated his share of models and actresses. When he happens to notice Cathy dining alone, he knows he has to get her attention. Cathy can't believe that 'The' Marcus Fox is interested in her because she is...Not His Type.

Not His Type is an excellent book. Canton does a great job with making characters believable and relatable. The secondary characters help make this story. Canton also does a wonderful job with integrating a topic that is very real in our society. With most of the population not being a size zero, Not His Type gives full-figured women a chance to be apart of a genre where most of the heroines are too perfect to be real.

This book was an excellent read. I loved the story line and am excited to have found another new author. I liked how the author addressed "types" and "weight" but thought after awhile it was redundant. At any rate, this is one of my faves and will add to my permanent shelf.

I thought this book was absolutely fantastic! I thought it was a wonderful love story, and I didn't want the book to end. I really liked how the author was able to tell the story and not use a lot of curse words, and the story flowed evenly. I would definitely recommend this book to any and everyone!

Chamein Canton is the author of In "Not His Type". I saw this book in the store when it first came out and I have to tell you I just fell in love with Chamein for a new author to me I was not disappointed. Chamein take us on a journey about love in this book. Meet Catherine Chambers who is a literary agent in NY, Cathy die hard Yankee fan and when she is presented with the opportunity to meet one of her all time favorite Marcus Fox she is over the moon. Cathy promotes her authors and she is hardly ever in the spot light. Catherine is a full-figured woman who has sworn off dating and love due to romantic disappointments of the past, as well as trying to come to terms with a stifling childhood due to her very religious mother. Cathy has already decided that she is not Marcus's type.

Yankee star Marcus Fox and is every woman dream and once he meet Catherine he knew she was difference and that she will become his new love interest, and that in itself surprised even Marcus. This quiet confident, voluptuous beauty. Now when Marcus make up his mind there is not stoping him and he wanted Ms. Catherine Chambers, but like all relationsip nothing runs smoothly.

The story of Marcus and Cathy is filled with a delightfully, intriguing characters including her sister & cousin and friends, players in the baseball and publishing worlds and the media who can't seem to leave well enough alone. Catherine & Marcus have to deal with media not understand how a fine developed, and highly pursued bachelor like Marcus could develop and fall in love with a non-model, non-actress, everyday woman who is pencil thin. I tell you in this book you have some up and down emotion but you can feel how much they love each through out this book.

If you love romance you will love this book I couldn't put the book down and I have to say that Chamein Canton has a new reader.

I can't wait to see what Chamein has coming out next, and yes I have read Bliss & and her lastes "The More Things Change" which is the sequel to "Not His Type"

I got this book and it looked really good and i was excited to read it. I spend a lot of money on books and am always reading. Maybe two pages into it she starts telling about her her mother's religion and downing it and anyone can guess what that religion was by the things she said. I paused but decided to continue reading in the hopes that it wouldn't be mentioned again. Well, a few pages later she starts talking about it again and criticizing it. Like i said anyone would know what religion this is and i just couldn't get past that so i stopped reading it and returned it to the store. I am really against authors writing negatively about religion because you never know who is going to be reading their work. It seemed very interesting but i couldn't allow myself to read and hope for a happily every after for someone who criticizes my way of life. I won't be reading this author again.
