Rehash with a nice surprise,

I'm very curious as to why there hasn't been a review as of yet on this release. My son bought this for me for Christmas 2 years ago knowing I was a die-hard fan for years. I introduced him by taking him to a MMW concert in 2004. But back to the CD.....If you are a fan this will seem like rehash. You have all the releases anyway and dozens of shows, etc. Why a compilation disk? I thought the same same and stashed it into my CD rack for a year. Then one day I pulled out the DVD that is packaged in the set (Yes, set. A CD and a DVD). The performances on The Dropper documentary just blew me away. Being this is a favorite period of mine made it extra special. This was the experimental funk from hell period that I really do enjoy. If you are new to the band and like the samples, buy it to get a good taste of what these guys are all about. It represents the majority of their styles (and yes, there are many). It's a good place to start. If you don't like these selections, I doubt you would like the band. But the DVD is where it's at. It's worth the price of admission.

Like another reviewer, over the years I had already acquired many CDs by these mad men. But, even for the longtime fan, this collection is a nice way to appreciate the range of music by this band over the years. As someone who loves the music of Medeski Martin & Wood, I can recommend "Note Bleu" to anyone who wishes to dip a toe into the water.Keep in mind, however, that the CD on this page does not come with a DVD. The CD alone, however, is definitely worth getting your hands on. Great music for the car, especially if you're ready to pay attention; this is not background music.
