I'll never forget this book 26 years ago when I started to learn how to play the piano. Now it is the DH who wants lessons, followed by my 5 year old DD. Again, I turned to John Thompson's Note Speller to get them started. You don't even need to really know how to play the piano or read music to use this book. It is a great basis for further piano instruction..

IF you're serious about learning Piano, or just playing around with it, this book is a must. The lessons and notes you learn are helpful at any level of play.

This book explains music theory in such an easy way even I can teach it! The child learns the staff, the symbols and notea and how to count. Very basic and very easy to teach!

My students hate this! I know the value and try to encourage them, but it makes music too much like school to them. Sorry to say, I don't use it very often because of this.

The illustrations in this book are charming! More importantly, the concepts taught are perfect for the beginning piano/music student. Just enough work, just enough challenge, just enough repetition. We love the entire John Thompson piano series, but I'd recommend this book for any young student, using any piano method.

My 8 year old beginning piano player ASKS to do this book. Enough said!
