My favorite Angela Hunt book so far!,
This review is from: The Note: A Story of Second Chances (Paperback)
Angela Hunt has woven a unique and clever story that kept me turning pages and surprised me at several turns. The story stands on its own as a captivating contemporary tale of a disenchanted columnist who finds more than she bargained for when she is given a mysterious note that washed up in the debris from a tragic plane crash. But when you delve into the allegory woven throughout, the novel becomes an amazing gem! You won't be disappointed and you won't soon forget this story.

Couldn't Put It Down!!,

I haven't read a book all the way through since I got stuck in the middle of the fourth book of the Left Behind Series last summer! I bought this book last Thursday evening and longed to return home from being out with my friends and family on Friday and Saturday nights just to read the book! I finished it on Sunday night with the intent of only finishing the next chapter.. I was up until 1:00am! The book was a total wake up call for those of us who may have stale or unhappy relationships with our parents, particularly with your father. You just never know how someone or something may touch your life. I think Angela wrote this story with the intent of having her reader desire to finish the book and go out and embrace their loved ones. Everything happens for a reason and God has His hand in everything we do, whether or not we see it as it's occurring! Wonderful read.. recommended from a person who can't ever finish a book but has started a million of them!

What would you do if you had a few seconds to live? What sort of message and legacy would you leave your loved ones? Angela Hunt explores this issue and many more in THE NOTE. A wonderful story of hope and new beginnings!

This is NOT just another "feel good" story,

I received this book yesterday evening. Well, I finished it at 1 am this morning! I couldn't put it down. Anyone who has a painful memory that seems to hold them back from God will appreciate this book. It reminds us that we have a loving, forgiving heavenly Father that we have available to sooth our hurts and forgive us from the most "unforgivable" sins. We only need to reach out to Him. This is a "Must Read".

I am not a reader, I am a CONSUMER. I pick up a book, and, if it is good, I just can't stop reading! I will lose a day or two over a good book. I am blessed, however, to be a very fast reader. I went to the book store yesterday to buy a retirement gift when I remembered that The Note was out, so I got it, too (along with number 2 Heavenly Daze) justifying my purchases with the classification that they were vacation reading. Of course, when I got home, I thought "Well, I'll just start it...it will give me some motivation to get packed." HAH! I read the first 2 or 3 chapters last night and then lost most of today reading. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, and liked getting to know Peyton through the eyes of those around her. I was also totally taken off guard at the end. I recommend!

Not all the questions are answered, but a good ending,

This book leaves you hanging up until the very end. Even at the end, you are still left wondering what will happen in the future. Peyton is a reporter on a deadline. She has 3 weeks to get her column straightened up or she is going to be forced to go back to news. There is a plane crash, and as fate would have it, Peyton is given a note from a passenger that washed up on the beach. She is then on a crusade to find who the note truly belongs to. Along this journey, she tries to ignore her past, but when she meets the person the note is meant for, she cannot ignore what happened to her so many years ago. The proverbial tidal wave rushes over her, and she is forced to examine what she has considered the truth of her life. This ending of the book leaves it open for a sequel. If one is ever written, you can be sure that I would pick it up. This is a tale that allows everyone to reflect on what they would do if they had only a few moments left to live. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Thanks Angie!,

"The Note" is Christian fiction at its best. It offers the struggle of the world in Julie St. Clair, the struggle of Christians and non-Christians alike who can not understand God's forgiveness, and it shows the transformation and reconciliation with and from the past in Peyton. So often, we as Christians can not relate to the struggles of those who have not heard the message because we have been caught in our "bubble" of righteousness. This book clearly illustrates how and why some might not come to understand the message of forgiveness brought through Christ. Finally in light of the recent events, it is about time we present the message to so many who are hurting. Great Work Angie~Your "book discussion" friend at Deep Creek Baptist Church

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Note: A Story of Second Chances (Paperback)
This book was wonderful! Peyton is a reporter for the Tampa Times. She writes The Heart Healer. When it rates last in a survey of readers' favorite colums, her boss gives her one last chance. In two weeks there would be a new survey. If Peyton's Heart Healer was still last, she was done. Peyton goes home and hears about the crash of Flight 848. Being a reporter, She goes straigt to the ocean, where the flight went down. A few days later, a woman gives Peyton a note in a plastic bag that floated out of the water to her backyard. Peyton believed it to have come from Flight 848. It just had a few words, but could mean a lot. It said, "T- I Love you. All is forgiven. Dad." Peyton then does a search with her assistant, Mandy, and discovers 3 possible people whom the note was intended for. The story goes on with Peyton having unexpected relationships and unexpected twists.

The author is a wonderful storyteller. She weaves great lessons in life into a richly-written novel. My father has recently been diagnosed with cancer - so ours will be a longer good-bye than those of the subjects in The Note. This book really hit home and reminds us all to tell our parents how much we love them while they can still hear us.

Hunt's writing is a gem in Christian fiction,

The story is about Peyton MacGruder, a newspaper columnist for the Tampa Times who is about to lose her job if she can't make her column more popular with the paper's readers. At about the same time, a plane crashes into Tampa Bay killing all on board. A woman she's never met hands her a note she believes is from the doomed plane which says, "T--I love you. All is forgiven. -Dad." Seeing an opportunity to save her column and her job, Peyton sets out to find the person for whom the note was intended to reach.
Hunt's writing is definitely better than a lot of what I have read in the Christian fiction market. Hunt has a knack for surprise endings and her writing keeps you reading to the end (I was glued to my seat for over 3 hours as I finished it!). I only gave it four stars because occasionally some of her characters seem a bit unoriginal and some elements of the story might be a bit of a stretch to believe. But that didn't distract me too much from the fascinating story. One small thing that did distract me though, was a strange literary device she used called "comments." They were written like newspaper columns, and since several characters in the story were editors, I initially thought that these were editorial columns being written for the paper. But considering the things said in the comments, I quickly figured out that these were just asides by some of the characters used by the author to give us other characters' impressions of Peyton. They were important to the story, but at first, they were a bit confusing. Still, the story is wonderful and can be quite emotional at times. The book was completed a year before 9/11 and came out in 2001, but I thought it really spoke to some of the emotions of that time. What would you say to someone you loved if you knew your plane was about to crash? It's a question none of us should wait until the moment of death to answer. That's a question to be answered in life. This book is a good read that poses some interesting questions to think about. |
