5.0 out of 5 stars The lip makes the difference
This is my second cooling pad and it is now my favorite. The other one I bought does not have the lower lip which holds the laptop in place so it always jiggles a little bit as I type. This one keeps the laptop snuggly in place so there is a more solid feel to it. It accomodates my large 17" notebook too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but not very secure
I ordered this hoping that it would be great. It's ok but not quite what I was hoping for. The lip on it is pointless for me since if I set my open 17" HP correctly in it on a flat surface, the laptop becomes too top-heavy and falls backward (luckily I caught it before it fell completely over). It doesn't do this of course if the laptop is shut, but then what's the...

I ordered this hoping that it would be great. It's ok but not quite what I was hoping for. The lip on it is pointless for me since if I set my open 17" HP correctly in it on a flat surface, the laptop becomes too top-heavy and falls backward (luckily I caught it before it fell completely over). It doesn't do this of course if the laptop is shut, but then what's the point?

This pad seems to work best if I set my laptop on TOP of the lip in a rather centered position but I am still a little untrusting of it. This seems to work best if I use it on the bed or my lap (possibly since then it's on a more forgiving surface) but as far as using it on a flat surface as an elevated "docking" type station, if you have a large laptop like mine, forget it.

5.0 out of 5 stars good for small laptops, September 11, 2007

I have a very small Sony laptop that this is just perfect for. I also have a larger laptop that is top-heavy on this - wouldn't recommend it for a very large laptop... under 15" would probably all work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very high quality, January 8, 2010

when looking for a cooling pad I figured that it would have a fan to be considered a "cooling" pad. So, I was a little disappointed when it came and it is just a stand that allows for better air circulation. Within the first few days EVERY one of the rubber feet on the bottom had fallen off. And, one of the clips that holds the stand up also broke. So, it is hard to get it level. So, if you are looking for something to really cool this is not the product. If you are looking for something to raise your laptop off the desk and not move, this product is for you.

This is the least expensive solution to the problem of having your lap superheated by your notebook computer. Forget the idea of using fans powered by a USB port to cool your computer. This device accomplishes the task by simply creating space between the computer and the supporting platform. The 3 inclining positions permit air to pass under the computer thus allowing the heat to dissipate. The platform even swivels.
Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

After using this product, my sperm count has returned to normal levels.

This item is practical. I needed it because the computer would get hot sometimes, and with this pad, there is no need for a fan, it works fine as is. The only thing I did not like is that it is not comfortable on your lap. But typing is more confortable when using this pad, as it holds the laptop at a good angle.

Lightweight and multiple positions make this a handy device to keep the laptop cool and adjustable to help view the screen while you work. Very nice.

This product is just as advertised. It is lightweight so goes with you easily and definately keeps the laptop cool. The only thing I haven't liked is that the little rubber pads on the bottom that keep the cooling pad from sliding when used on a tabletop, have fallen off and will not restick.

Poor quality. Little instructions (I know...who the heck needs instructions for a simple item such as a cooling pad but this cooling pad is a different story.) I opened the box and two small black parts fell out of the inside of the cooling pad. Not sure how they are supposed to install but the three adjustable levels won't work without those 2 black parts. Used the cooling pad on my lap and when I lifted it up, the soft-felt circles on the bottom of the pad had fallen off! This cooling pad touts the great feature of a swivel but the swivel doesn't readily move, the entire pad will slide on the table before it swivels. With shipping, I paid $20 for this and it's not even worth $5! Piece of junk that falls apart before you even use it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Is the cooling pad hot?, January 13, 2010

This is a decent little cooling pad. Why do they call it a cooling pad though? It doesn't cool anything--it should just be called a riser pad... but I digress. This pad fits my 15" Macbook Pro just fine. A nice surprise that I didn't see on the description is that it rotates which is a nice little touch. The riser bar on the back is a bit flimsy feeling, and startled me when it cracked into place raising it the first time. There are a couple of springs underneath that pull a bar toward the center of the pad to adjust the height on the bar in one of three grooves. This makes it a little awkward to get it to the right setting.

All that said, I just bought this for those occasional times where I like to watch a movie in bed and believe it will be perfect for that.
