Conrad Wilson has an excellent series, looking at twenty crucial works of various composers. Why twenty? It's enough to give credit to their work, but a small enough number it forces Wilson to make decisions on which books to include.Notes on Bach: 20 Crucial Works is a good book at helping you get to know Bach, his times, and his music. |
