2.0 out of 5 stars The stupidest jokes ever. I wish I were dead every time I read this.
To be fair, there is some good info here for almost anyone doing any type of patient care; there are some things everyone should know.
The crux is that the pathetically stupid jokes constantly interrupt what little continuity there is and make the thing almost unreadable. Combined with the stupid and annoying lacks of info disguised as questions it gets old...

5.0 out of 5 stars A mentor on your shoulder., November 16, 2003

You know how you try to learn something very complex from a textbook and you don't "get it", but then a seasoned colleague tells you the same thing in simple, understandable words and then adds some humor to the whole serious subject and suddenly a light goes on and you say "OH so THAT"S what it means!!" Well, this entire book is like that. It's not only for newcomers to ICU either. There's plenty of "stuff" that we old -timers need to review, refresh or..dare I say it....still learn! If you're new though, this book is like having a mentor on your shoulder or in your pocket. You'll understand so much better the things you'll need to know to feel confident working in the ICU. I love this book for what's in it and especially for how the author uses an abundance of dry, intelligent wit to get some tough points across. Get this one, you won't be sorry!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great reference!, February 18, 2006
This review is from: Notes on ICU Nursing: FAQ Files from the MICU: Second Edition (Paperback)
Speaking from a "new to the ICU" nurse's point of view, this book is wonderful! I really enjoy the humor. I have found lots of information in this book that answers those questions that start out with, "I know this is a stupid question, but..." I now know that other people have had the same questions! I do think that an Index would be a very useful addition to the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, October 10, 2005
This review is from: Notes on ICU Nursing: FAQ Files from the MICU: Second Edition (Paperback)
This is a great guide for the beginning ICU nurse. As a new grad, I found it very helpful. It covers basic and detailed things that maybe an experienced nurse may easily grasp but forget to mention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Notes on ICU Nursing: FAQ Files from the MICU: Second Edition, January 18, 2009
This review is from: Notes on ICU Nursing: FAQ Files from the MICU: Second Edition (Paperback)
This book has pertinent information in a easy to read format. The added humor in various sections creates a "fun break". As a nurse of 20 years, I found new information, and decided to purchase a book for a "New" nurse in the unit. I have gotten very good feedback from other nurses on this book. I find the unit can get very busy at times, and finding time to answer some questions can be difficult, this book is organized in a conversation Q&A format. It also has added pictures from the original book. You will not regret purchasing this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a former co-worker of Mr. Hammerschmidt, January 21, 2012
This review is from: Notes on ICU Nursing: FAQ Files from the MICU: Second Edition (Paperback)
Having had the pleasure of working closely with Mark in the past in an ICU, I can say that his work is phenomenal. Not only is he one of the most knowledged RNs around, he has a quirky sense of humor and a great bedsire manner. When I worked with him, I was a new Nurse, and his guidance was exceptional and helpful. He always challenged me with questions and clinical situations when I was assisting him, and explained everything very well and in a very simplified manner. I plan on ordering this book..well...NOW :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to ICU, April 20, 2011

This review is from: Notes on ICU Nursing: FAQ Files from the MICU: Second Edition (Paperback)
I found this book via their website... after reading a few of their online files that are available for free I opted to purchase this in the book form as it was an enjoyable, informative read and I wanted to support the author.
This info is a great resource and fun to read. I really like its grassroots and truly appreciate the efforts the author has placed in compiling and updating this book.
I recommend it to anyone entering the ICU, somewhat new in the ICU or students aspiring to enter the ICU.
