Book Description

June 5, 2007
Rainbow Bridge, filled with warmth and sunshine, is the place where our pets go when their lives on earth are finished. There is plenty to do at the Bridge while they wait for their humans, and Chloe, a Samoyed dog in her former life, has been assigned to tell of her experiences by her boss, Big Dog. She meets many creatures, human and otherwise and also spends time volunteering and visiting the many areas of the Bridge, including the human and animal halls of fame that exist there. Her favorite pastime, however, is watching some of the many reunions that take place between humans and their pets. Typical of her breed and dogs in general, Chloe tells the story with canine wit, wisdom and whimsy.

About the Author

It took twenty years and many rejections slips to do it, but when Beth Szillagyi found SynergEbooks on the internet, her lifelong dream of being a published novelist became reality. "Hey, Lady! Your Tin Snips are Showing!" was published in 2001 after starting out as an article in the now defunct Tradeswomen Magazine in 1981. A year or so later came "Cobwebs in the Broiler", a novel about step-motherhood. Beth's third book, "Notes From Rainbow Bridge" was inspired by her own "angel" dog, Cassie Jane and the love that they shared. Beth lives in Illinois and has worked construction for almost thirty years. Her most recent milestone (or millstone, depending on how the day is going) was making it through her 50th birthday.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Special Look at a Special Place, September 26, 2007

This review is from: Notes From Rainbow Bridge (Paperback)
Only in the past few years has it become "okay" to openly grieve over the loss of a dear animal or bird companion. Those of us who have spent time with horses have heard of the Rainbow Bridge, and whether we openly admit it or not, the knowledge is a comfort--someday we will be able to put our arms around not only the humans we have loved, but at the Rainbow Bridge, we can once again hug our "buddies."
At a time when the death of an animal companion is sudden, unexpected, and horrific--as might occur in a barn fire--author Beth Szillagy gives us the gift of Chloe, a smart-mouthed Samoyed, who tells us about her boss, Big Dog, the inner workings of the Rainbow Bridge, and the stories of some of the animals who have come to the Rainbow Bridge. This book helps us to see beyond our immediate grief; it allows us to laugh in the midst of sorrow, and that's so important in our recovery.
And, although we know that Chloe and her friends at the Rainbow Bridge are fictional--born of Beth Szillagy's wonderful imagination--consider this: in July, 2007, we learned through an Associated Press article by Ray Henry, that Oscar, a cat who lives in a nursing home in Providence, Rhode Island, has comforted 25 people as they departed this existence. Is Oscar carrying out the orders of Big Dog? Read Chloe's Notes From Rainbow Bridge and decide for yourself.
