Book Description

June 28, 1998 ASA Training Manuals
Written for pilots who want to transition from land-based aircraft to seaplanes, this guide is designed to teach the special manoeuvres that are required for the FAA's seaplane rating and also gives insight into the important practical differences between flying landplanes and seaplanes. Each step of flying a seaplane is presented in logical order, starting with pre-flight and proceeding through taxiing, takeoff, landing, and post-flight procedures. Special attention is given to the issues involved in handling an aircraft on the water, such as conditions for takeoff and landing, and docking, beaching, or ramping a seaplane.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of helpful tips and insights, October 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Extremely insightful book covering all aspects of water operations. The author clearly has many years of experience and the book is full of small pieces of wisdom and insight, some of which are far better learned in a book rather than in the air or on the water. Contains many helpful diagrams. Would be useful both to seasoned veterans and new pilots alike. Note: focuses almost exclusively on single engine floatplanes.

Burke really knows what he is talking about when it comes to seaplane flying. I always enjoy reading his articles in the SPA magazine too. Too bad he never got to be an airline pilot.
