Ok, maybe not the hot dog eating contest, we'll see. Anyway, back to the review! Couldn't believe this is the third amazing album of theirs in a row and there are no reviews for any of them! I never give reviews, but this band is deserving of six stars. Maybe seven. Especially this album. Which is to say, they are a pretty darn good band. In fact, all three albums could be combined into one long album and you wouldn't miss a beat. Some may say that's not enough growth, but who needs growth the first album was so good?? For this third one I was actually expecting a decline from these guys, isn't it usually the third album where a band goes down the tubes? Or by the third album. Well, not these guys. Stunning meditative guitar melodies, dancing piano beats, and perfect drums (SMJ reminded me just how important drums are to music (And believe me, the drums are perfect (perfect for post rock anyway) (Even when done accidentally!))). Or perhaps I'm just a sucker for 20 minute songs (but then, who isn't?!?). Only seven miles? I swear I travel at least eight on The Alter Ego Autopsies, sometimes eight and half, on a good day. If you're new to postrock, think Explosions in the Sky only slightly darker, more intense, more consistent, and more better!; If you're not, don't think, get all three and then have your own hot dog eating contest! Well, you can come to mine if you want, but I can't guarantee I'll be there.
