5.0 out of 5 stars .... A little more than just drama.
After I saw the video for the song "Liar", I began my famous debate on whether I would add this CD to my collection or not. The single, which was produced by Teddy Riley & Roy Hamilton and follows in the lastest trend of songs by Liberty City, "Who's She Lovin' Now", Avant's "Separated", and Ruff Endz' "Where Does Love Go From...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad... Preferred the first one tho.
Okay, no one was more happier than me when I heard these guys were given a second chance. I was one of those few people who heard their first CD. As good as it was, it kinda got lost in the shuffle which was tragic because these guys are pretty talented. Theyre much better than Ideal, who came out the same time their first CD came out... and eclipsed them.

This CD,...

After I saw the video for the song "Liar", I began my famous debate on whether I would add this CD to my collection or not. The single, which was produced by Teddy Riley & Roy Hamilton and follows in the lastest trend of songs by Liberty City, "Who's She Lovin' Now", Avant's "Separated", and Ruff Endz' "Where Does Love Go From Here", is tight. Once again, a reviewer, "Tony", let me know that the Profyle CD was definitely worth checking out, so I picked this CD up. From beginning to end, "Nothin' But Drama" proves why Profyle will still have many more CDs to come in the future. First things first, the "Liar" explicit version is just a little different from the radio version. Some parts will even make you laugh or make you get upset if you have been in the situation before. Profyle does a good job keeping up with the R&B acts of today. Their material isn't ground breaking but you will like what they have to offer. The two gems , in my opinion, are the two tracks produced by Steve "Stone" Huff. He has really impressed me with the work he has done so far on Joe's "My Name Is Joe" CD, Avant & Sparkle's latest CD. "(Can We) M.A.K.E. L.U.V." and "Can We Talk (About Us)" are the best two songs on this CD. Other gems are the Joe produced "I Do", "Every Little Thing" and "Can We Make Love". This CD will remind a lot of folks of Next's "Welcome II Nextasy". You get good r&b with a raunchy twist to it on some songs but you also get a lot of good r&b that you are used to as well. I would recommend this CD to anyone that likes Next's and Donell Jones' latest CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantabulous CD!!! A MUST BUY!!!, August 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nothin But Drama (Audio CD)
know music, been writing music for years now. Music is my life; I also write music professionally.

So here is The Run Down:
I've known of Profyle for a long time coming now from the songs:
*Every Little Thing
*(Can We) M.A.K.E. L.U.V.
*I Wont Cry
*Overjoyed

So I bought both their cds and was more than impressed! Some people are saying "change the lead singer" those people just dont get it, so let me enlighten you a little.
They wanted a more rough lead singer, it adds bass, monotone, yet quality and a soothing touch. They are an awesome group. Buy the Cd PERIOD!

JUST BUY THE DAMN CD ITS AWESOME!

My Rating System is based on Amazon's:
* = Hate It
** = I Don't Like It
*** = It's Ok
**** = I Like It
***** = I LOVE IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too shabby. . ., June 5, 2001

I bought this cd because I was bored and feeling a little experimental. Also because being a long time fan of Monifah, I was interested in what she would sound like with the group. The first half of this album is great, its so great that it makes you forget almost entirely about the mediocre second half. Best songs are Nasty, Liar Liar, and M.A.K.E.L.U.V. Not to shabby.

This CD, is good, but I feel, as is with the case with artists who dont make that big successful debut, that they compromised their sound for the hits. Liar is a great song, but beyond a handful of songs, the rest of the CD sounds oh so trendy, and typical. Their first CD was much more classier and mature, whereas with this one they changed their image and turned in the suits and 'ex choir boy gone R&B' sound for Timbs and sex-you-up thug appeal. Tho theres possibility for a couple hit singles, this material is very much below them.

And, tho Teddy Riley was relevant at one time, and tho yes, he produced "Liar" which gave him another #1 hit, I think his time has passed, and they could have did a lot better in choosing producers.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Their Best Albums Yet!, October 17, 2000
This review is from: Nothin But Drama (Audio CD)
Profyle has done it again! With a smooth harmony and strong-hard-hitting vocals, no other group put so much soul into their singing.

Once again, they have collaborated with producer/writer JOE for another platinum status selling album. With their song, "Liar," being #1 on Billboard charts for 3 weeks, and being in the #2 spot for 7 weeks, are showing that these boy's have it going on. Producers Teddy Riley, JOE, and Kedar Massenburg.

Get this album. I promise that you will love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tryin' 2 Hard, December 4, 2006

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Profyle, they are really good singers and have good material but on this sophomore album they are just trying too hard to be street or hardcore. Their debut album Whispers In The Dark is a really good CD, but it's like they did a 180 for their second CD. They have changed a lot from their appearances to their material, becoming a lot more "ghetto" compared to the first CD. The second CD isn't all that bad, about half of it is listenable, the other half is mostly just skippable. If you were to get any of the Profyle CDs, I'd highly recommend their debut CD over their second CD.

Profyle's 1999 album Whispers in the Dark was much better than this one. But this album still holds ground with songs like "liar","nasty","damn", and many others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop All the Complaining, January 7, 2001
By
dev1 (Baltimore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nothin But Drama (Audio CD)
It's an amazing album, both mysterious and straightforward, hovering between a harsh melodic beauty and a driving guitar squall. And it's easily one of the best albums of the year. If superlatives such as "awesome," "great," and "masterpiece" aren't convincing enough to make you want to buy "Nothin' But Drama" , let me be more direct: We know where you live! Please stop all the complaining about the "funny" songs. Every track can't be intellectually stimulating. Gee, lighten-up a little. Normally, ethnic cleansing isn't funny at all. But the way that it's presented here will have you rolling on the ground. It's REALLY funny. Haven't you ever heard about "nonfiction"?

Some reviewers have complained that "Nothin' But Drama" contains too many "explicit lyrics." Well, things in the inner city aren't quite the same as they are in the suburbs. Gangsters have got to be bad to survive. I was watching the news and saw some kids in Gaza standing in front of a tank throwing rocks. If they're bad enough to take on a tank with rocks, do you really think that they would be afraid of some foul-mouthed gangster? "Oh please Mr. Rap Gangster, don't hurt me." I don't think so. This is the kind of music that's good to listen to while you're relaxing and doing nothing. REALLY awesome music for serious people who have serious brains with serious thoughts. The words are so REAL. Unlike trying to memorize the capitals of all the states, you can really learn something from the words.

Are you tired of the same old rap, rock, alternative, funk, heavy metal and those little paper things that go around a cup of coffee that are supposed to keep you from burning your fingers? Then you have got to get "Nothin' But Drama" . Just 2 words: guaranteed awesome stuff! Look at the bargain. Forty-minutes of music just like their last album, which was just like the one before it. Not a hint of originality or inspiration - just awesome. Besides, I think that "sincerity" is way overrated.

3.0 out of 5 stars The title of the cd says everything........., November 6, 2000
By

Profyle came with a whole different style for this album. I never heard the first one but I liked the single from the first one that they had out last year. This one takes it a step back with liar liar. this whole album is more "Street" than the first one and even has a clean and explicit version. You might not be able to imagine what they could be saying to have PA on there cd but one listen to some tracks like "addicted" and you will know why. I read some reviews in here about the album version of liar being different but the only difference is its long and they have a skit with a guy telling his girl to get out.

Overall the album was decent but could have been better. Liar Liar is the best single on the album but "Nasty" with monifah could be another hit. best songs: 1,2,3,5,7,8,11,12
